I enter, and strive uprightly to reach the realms of gods and humans. Although there are three kinds of all afflictions: afflictions, karma, and birth, the order of the former, latter, and middle cannot be determined. Because each day is afflicted by the suffering of suffering and the suffering of change, it is like an unbroken state of water buckets from which one cannot escape. Now, in order to clarify the two kinds of compassion, with and without an object, through the means of an object, wanting to pay homage, it is said: Like the moon in moving water, beings are in the moving water. Seeing its movement and emptiness of nature. Having said this, add: I bow to the one who has become compassion. How does one become compassion? Just as the wind slightly stirs, and the image of the moon appears in the very clear moving water, beings move in an instant, and seeing that their nature is empty because they are unborn in the ultimate sense, they have the form of wanting to free them from suffering. How so? If one thinks that beings and the moon in the water are the same in Dharma nature, will compassion arise? When the water is very clear, not a strong wind, but partially illuminated by light, the image of the moon appears, and the holy ones see that both of these reveal their own nature, that is, each moment is impermanent, and the nature is empty. Similarly, bodhisattvas who are under the control of compassion, in the ocean of beings who see existence as real, in the vast blue water of ignorance, when stirred by the wind of improper attention, seeing beings who appear before them like the image of their own karma, each moment suffering the pain of impermanence, and seeing that their nature is empty, in order to destroy their suffering, they want to attain the supreme source of nectar, the state of perfect and complete enlightenment of the Buddha. Secondly, in order to ascertain the nature of the treatise to be entered, there are two: the ten grounds of the causal stage and the one ground of the resultant stage. Among these, the ten grounds of the causal stage are like the state of a fetus, because they possess the obscuration of the ground.

Therefore, the state of the Buddha's ground is similar to the state of being born. Just as after being born, one experiences the range of activities of all the senses, so too, due to the completion of activities, one experiences the range of all that is knowable. Among these, there are ten states of the womb: the stage of the body of semen, the stage of the body of flesh, the stage of the relaxed body, the stage of the solid body, the stage of the body conforming to the body, the stage of the body conforming to nature, and the stage of the body associated with karma. These seven stages are the stages of incompleteness, and these seven impure grounds should be understood as being in accordance with them. There are also three stages of completeness: the completeness of the senses, the completeness of the marks, and the completeness of water and width. These three pure grounds should be understood as being in accordance with them. So, what is the nature of this called "ground"? That which is completely grasped by the non-outflow wisdom, compassion, etc., of a Bodhisattva is named "ground," because it is the support of qualities. If non-outflow wisdom is non-conceptual, of one taste, and without difference, then how is it divided into ten grounds? To this, from the perspective of its own essence, there is no difference. However, it is merely that itself, from higher to higher, obtains the distinction of the number of qualities and the power of excellence, as well as the reading of perfections such as generosity, and the distinction of the increase of maturation, that it is separately established as the ten names of the Joyful Ground, the Stainless Ground, the Luminous Ground, the Radiant Ground, the Very Difficult to Conquer Ground, the Manifest Ground, the Far-Reaching Ground, the Immovable Ground, the Good Wisdom Ground, and the Cloud of Dharma Ground. Among these, the first ground of generating the mind—the Joyful Ground—should be understood through three aspects: namely, briefly explaining the nature of the ground as the basis of characteristics; elaborating on the qualities of the ground as the attributes of characteristics; and concluding by stating the qualities of the ground. Regarding the first point: In order to liberate beings, being dominated by compassion, making aspirations extremely with the aspirations of Samantabhadra, whoever's mind abides in great joy, that is the first among the sons of the Victorious Ones.
