When one hundred and sixteen years had passed, in the city called 'Flourishing with Flowers,' when the king named Dharma Ashoka was ruling, due to some disputed doctrines, a great schism occurred in the Sangha. At that time, it temporarily split into two factions and remained: the Mahasanghika and the Sthavira. Among them, the Mahasanghika sect also gradually split, dividing into eight types: the Mahasanghika sect, the Ekavyavaharika, the Lokottaravada, the Bahushrutiya, the Prajnaptivada, the Chaityaka, the Eastern Mountain sect, and the Western Mountain sect. The Sthavira also gradually split, dividing into ten types: the Sthavira, the Sarvastivada, the Vatsiputriya, the Dharmottariya, the Bhadrayaniya, the Sammatīya, the Dharmaguptaka, the Kashyapiya, the Sautrantika, and the Uttariya. Among them, the second name for the Sthavira is also called the Himavata. Another name for the Sarvastivada is also called the Vibhajyavada, the Hetuvada, and some also call it the Muruntaka. Another name for the Sammatīya is the Pantaka and the Kuru-kula. The second name for the Dharmaguptaka is also called the Kasyapa. For the Uttariya, some also say it is the Transference sect. The second system is that the time, place, and reason for the split are the same as the previous one, but the fundamental divisions are three types: the Sthavira, the Mahasanghika, and the Vibhajyavada. The Sthavira also has two types: the Sarvastivada and the Vatsiputriya. The Sarvastivada also has two types: the Thatness and the Sutra. The Vatsiputriya also has four types: the Sammatīya, the Dharmottariya, the Bhadrayaniya, and the City Six. Thus, the Sthavira is divided into six types. The Mahasanghika also has eight types: the Thatness, the Eastern Mountain sect, the Western Mountain sect, the Rajagriha sect, the Himavata, the Siddhatthaka, the Chaityaka, and the Cow-dwelling sect. The Vibhajyavada also has four types: the Earth Theory sect and the Kasyapa.

These are those who wear animal skins, conceal the Dharma, and wear red clothes. The third way is that one hundred and thirty-seven years after the Blessed One passed into Nirvana, most of the noble ones, such as King Gawa and Padma Chenpo, who were gathered in the city of Pataliputra (梵文:Pāṭaliputra, now Patna, India), attained the cool state without taking rebirth again. At that time, the Sangha of Arhats who had attained true wisdom, such as the great Elder Kashyapa, the great Naga, the great Giver, the Lama, and Revata, resided there. All the wicked sinners, who had turned to the side of discord, wearing the robes of monks, displayed various magical powers, and created a great schism in the Sangha with five points. Those who held the name "Dwelling in Naga" and the well-learned "Firm of Mind" praised these five points. These five points are: to declare accordingly, to answer others with it, not knowing, being indecisive, fully examining, and self-nourishment is the path, they said, "This is the teaching of the Buddha." Thereafter, the Sangha split into two factions and remained: the Sthavira and the Mahasanghika. Thus, for sixty-three years, the Sangha was divided and in turmoil. Then, two hundred years after the Teacher passed into Nirvana, the Elder Upagupta correctly compiled the Dharma. After he had correctly compiled it, the Mahasanghika Sangha split into six sections, and the Sthavira split into twelve sections and remained. Acharya Shakya-od considered that seventeen other sections had split off from the Sarvastivada itself. The Chinese Khenpo said in the commentary on the Madhyamakavatara, that the Sarvastivada and the Mahasanghika each split into ten sections, so there were twenty sections. Furthermore, Acharya Vinītadeva also described the various sections in the Samayabhedoparacanacakra, with slightly different distinctions between the root and branches, but did not elaborate. The fundamental vows and the meanings of the names of each of these sections should be understood from the Tarkajvālā. Secondly, regarding the correct compilation of the Mahayana Pitaka, there is one fundamental compilation, and
