General Meaning Explained General Meaning Explained Here, the treatise "Entering the Middle Way," which clearly elucidates the profound and vast unsurpassed manner, is the Dharma to be explained. What is the connection of this treatise? What is to be expressed? Why was it composed? Regarding that, firstly, the connection of the treatise is: the manner in which the Tathagata turned the wheel of Dharma, the manner in which the compilers compiled it, and the manner in which the commentators explained it, these three must be understood. Among these, firstly, how did the Tathagata turn the wheel of Dharma? The Tathagata, seeing those who are completely attached to all the collections of elaborations such as the world's arising, ceasing, permanence, annihilation, oneness, difference, etc., who are shrouded in the thick darkness of ignorance, who have long been lost in the frightening wilderness of samsara, who have lost the correct path, and who are tormented by unbearable sufferings such as birth, old age, sickness, and death, like wild animals and venomous snakes, constantly uttering pitiful cries, truly saw them with the most excellent and unsurpassed great compassion, and with the intention of liberating all beings, manifested the Bodhicitta with such characteristics, and for countless millions of eons, took on the great burden of accumulating the collections of merit and wisdom, churned the ocean of the Prajnaparamita, and from it obtained the supreme state of liberation, like a wish-fulfilling jewel king, which bestows all the needs and desires of oneself and others, and then, according to the faculties, intentions, and predispositions of the beings to be tamed, turned the unsurpassed wheel of Dharma. The wheel of Dharma turned by the Bhagavan, from the perspective of the divisions of the three trainings to be expressed, becomes the three precious pitakas. From the perspective of the divisions of the expresser, it becomes the twelve branches of scripture. From the perspective of the divisions of the antidotes to discordant factors, it becomes the eighty-four thousand aggregates of Dharma. For example, for beings who are engaged in desire, there are twenty-one thousand aggregates of Dharma; similarly, for those who are engaged in hatred and

There are as many beings who engage in delusion and who engage in equality. For the sake of those, that many aggregates of Dharma were spoken, as the noble Nagarjuna said in the commentary on the chapter of means in the Perfection of Wisdom. So say the Khenpos of China. From the distinction of time, there are three kinds of wheels of Dharma, like this: the wheel of Dharma of the four truths, the wheel of Dharma of no characteristics, and the wheel of Dharma that is well distinguished and possessed. The first is that which was taught in the Deer Park of the hermitage in Varanasi, starting from the four truths, to those who have truly entered the Hearer Vehicle. The second is that which was taught at Vulture Peak Mountain and so on, starting from the ultimate truth of emptiness, such as the Perfection of Wisdom, to those who have truly entered the Great Vehicle. The third is that which was taught in pure and impure realms such as Lotus Treasury, starting from the three natures of no essence, such as the Holy Unraveling of Intentions, to those who are truly devoted to all vehicles. Here, what is the nature of the wheel of Dharma? Why is it called a wheel? The nature of the wheel of Dharma is twofold: the Dharma of teaching and the Dharma of realization. The first is the twelve branches of scripture. The second is the paths of the noble ones, such as the path of seeing. Because the wheel is in accordance with the Dharma, it is called the wheel of Dharma. Just as the wheel destroys the opposing side and moves from one place to another, these two kinds of Dharma, the nature of teaching and realization, also destroy the opposing side of attachment and so on, and gradually move in the continuum of the trainees. How does it move? From the wheel of Dharma taught by the Bhagavan, Kaundinya who knows all and others practiced it properly, and the wheel of Dharma of realization arises. They also teach it to other trainees, and in that way realization arises. When were these three wheels of Dharma taught?
