Therefore, form has the characteristic of being able to be shaped. Feeling has the characteristic of experiencing ripening of virtue and vice, such as pleasure and pain. Perception has the characteristic of grasping the unique characteristics of all phenomena. Formation has the characteristic of the mind manifestly engaging with the object. Consciousness has the characteristic of individually distinguishing objects such as form. The aggregates of appropriation have the characteristic of any of the three sufferings. The elements have the characteristic of a venomous snake in terms of being in accordance with the Dharma of grasping. Or, because they are the source of suffering. The sense bases, the Buddha said, "Are the very door of birth." Why? Because they are the door of the arising of mind or suffering. Whatever is dependent arising, that is the nature of aggregation. Dependent arising is said to be of the nature of aggregation because it arises from the gathering and assembly of causes and conditions. Giving is the perfection of generosity, ethics is the nature of being without torment, patience is the nature of being without anger, and diligence is the very absence of fault. Giving is the state of giving away body, possessions, and so on. Ethics is the absence of torment by afflictions. Patience is the absence of anger towards unfavorable circumstances. Diligence is the very absence of fault, since it has the characteristic of fully embracing virtuous dharmas. Meditation is of the nature of gathering. Because it gathers virtuous dharmas, or because it closely gathers the mind on the object. Wisdom is of the nature of non-attachment. Because in order to go to nirvana, there is no attachment to anything. These are said to be the characteristics of the six perfections. The meditations and the immeasurables, and likewise whatever else is formless, these are said by the one who knows truly to be of the nature of non-disturbance. Those such as the meditations, the Blessed One said are of the nature of non-disturbance, because they are obtained by being separated from attachment to desire and by abandoning anger. The aspects of enlightenment are thirty-seven, and are the very nature of definite emergence.

Because it is the cause of transcending samsara, it is the characteristic of being certain to arise. The characteristic of emptiness is: without an object, it is devoid of conceptual proliferation. Because things are not objectified, the door to liberation, emptiness, is not defiled by the stains of conceptual proliferation, and is the characteristic of being extremely peaceful. The peaceful nature of no characteristics, the third characteristic is the absence of suffering and ignorance. The door to liberation, no characteristics, is the characteristic of peace from the door of not objectifying characteristics. The third door to liberation, no aspiration, is the characteristic of no suffering and ignorance, because for those who are of the nature of suffering of formation, truly following and observing, when observing the nature of formation with wisdom, then there is no aspiration. Among them, the two aspects of selflessness are the aspect of emptiness. Because the characteristics of phenomena such as form are nearly pacified, nirvana is the aspect of no characteristics. The contaminated dharmas included in the two, suffering and origin, are the aspect of no aspiration. The worldly samadhi that focuses on them is called the samadhi of emptiness, etc. The supramundane wisdom that focuses on them is called the door to liberation, emptiness, etc. The characteristic of liberation is that which liberates. A form possessor seeing form is the first liberation. A formless being seeing form is the second liberation. The beautiful liberation is the third liberation. The four formless liberations, and the liberation of cessation of perception and feeling, etc., are the characteristic of liberating because they liberate from the obscurations of meditative absorption. Among them, the liberation of a form possessor seeing form is to be liberated from the obscuration of transformation. Relying on the basis of dhyana, the yogi places the perception of form close to himself, and for external forms, he generates samadhi and wisdom that are in accordance with various intentions such as lovely, unlovely, large, and small. The second liberation is that the others are the same as the former, and the difference is that the yogi himself destroys the perception of form.
