Commentary on the "Entering the Middle Way," The Lamp that Illuminates Suchness. Commentary on the "Entering the Middle Way," The Lamp that Illuminates Suchness. Commentary on the "Entering the Middle Way," The Lamp that Illuminates Suchness, is completed here. I prostrate to all the Buddhas and their sons in the ten directions! Adorned with the armor of wisdom, flourishing with the power of samadhi; Skilled in methods to defeat the enemy in the battle of afflictions; Possessing the army of the four immeasurables, such as loving-kindness; I prostrate to that great hero, the mighty one! Although not a river of fortunate chariots, it is water that purifies the stains of beings; Although not sandalwood-infused saffron, it alleviates the suffering of beings' minds; Although not a radiant jewel of the sky, it is the supreme light that dispels the darkness of beings; May the doctrine of the Sage and the assembly of its upholders be victorious at the crown of all beings! Abiding in the depths of the water treasure that abandons the two extremes; Adorned with the lotus seat of the seven limbs of enlightenment; Wielding power over the island of precious scriptures; May Nagarjuna protect me! His doctrine is like a garden of pure white lotuses, Whose rays of intelligence cause them to bloom; Possessing the white light that illuminates the four continents of the Sage's doctrine; I also respectfully bow to the feet of glorious Chandrakirti! Whoever understands it will shatter the mountain of extremist views like a vajra, Just as the sun's rays evaporate dew on the tip of a blade of grass. The Middle Way, which is easily destroyed, should be understood as such. Here, I will explain a treatise that is not moved by the winds of speculation. Gods and demigods, asuras, humans, and what else? Accomplished ones, vidyadharas, powerful ones, and so on, Whoever has faith in the doctrine of Gautama, Fortunate ones, listen with joyful minds! Explanation of the General Meaning Here, the treatise "Entering the Middle Way," which clearly explains the profound and vast unsurpassed way, is the Dharma to be explained. Here, what is the connection of the treatise? What is to be expressed? Why was it composed? Regarding this, first, the connection of the treatise is: the way in which the Tathagata turned the wheel of Dharma, the way in which the compilers compiled it, and the way in which the commentators explained it, these three ways should be understood. Among these, first, the way in which the Tathagata turned the wheel of Dharma is: the Tathagata taught about the arising, cessation, and permanence of the world.

Clinging to all aggregates of elaboration such as annihilation and permanence, one and different, shrouded in the thick darkness of ignorance, lingering for a long time in the desolate and frightening wilderness of samsara, having lost the right path, suffering unbearable pain of birth, old age, sickness, and death, tormented like by wild beasts and venomous snakes, constantly uttering pitiful cries like thunder, to those beings, with extremely excellent and unsurpassed great compassion, truly gazing upon them, manifesting the characteristic Bodhicitta with the intention of liberating all beings, bearing the great burden of accumulating merit and wisdom for countless eons, churning the ocean of Prajnaparamita, bestowing all needs and desires of oneself and others, attaining the supreme state of unsurpassed liberation like a precious wish-fulfilling king, according to the faculties, intentions, and predispositions of the beings to be tamed, turning the unsurpassed wheel of Dharma. The wheel of Dharma turned by the Bhagavan, from the difference of the three trainings that are to be explained, becomes the three precious baskets; from the difference of the means of expression, it becomes the twelve branches of scripture; from the difference of antidotes to opposing factors, it becomes eighty-four thousand aggregates of Dharma, that is, for beings dominated by desire, there are twenty-one thousand aggregates of Dharma, similarly for beings dominated by anger, dominated by ignorance, and those with balanced afflictions, there are also twenty-one thousand aggregates of Dharma each, for the sake of these beings, corresponding aggregates of Dharma were taught, as the noble Nagarjuna said in the commentary on the Prajnaparamita Upaya Chapter, so said the Chinese Khenpo. From the difference of time, there are three kinds of Dharma wheels, namely the Four Noble Truths Dharma wheel, the Signless Dharma wheel, and the Well-Discriminated Dharma wheel. The first refers to the teachings based on the Four Noble Truths in Varanasi (ancient Indian place name) Sarnath Deer Park for those who have truly entered the Hearer Vehicle.
