Therefore, dependent origination itself is not something to be refuted. If it is said that seeds and sprouts, whether they are the same or different, easily fall into the trap of distinguishing from self-arising and other ways, then if seeds and sprouts have a little bit of inherent existence, it might be reasonable to think that they would not go beyond the distinction of being the same or different. However, these are like dreams, without any inherent existence at all. It is unreasonable to distinguish between the same and the different, because the same and the different are the properties of things. If the seed has no inherent existence, then wouldn't the sprout arise from no cause? If it is admitted that the seed is completely non-existent like a rabbit's horn, then that fault would be committed. But the seed is not without true inherent existence, but it is not completely non-existent, because the name of the seed can be seen. Therefore, when the Madhyamikas say that all dharmas have no inherent existence, this is not denying that they are completely non-existent, but like illusions, they say that they have a false inherent existence. Similarly, even if the existence of conventional truth is admitted, no inherent existence is admitted at all, therefore, it is not contradictory to the view of emptiness, and cannot be refuted. Second, refuting the debate is divided into two parts, the first is refuting the debate that will not become the path of seeing: If it is said that there is no inherent existence, then how do these things appear before us and become the object of the path of seeing? Dense ignorance like clouds, obscures the world and all sentient beings, therefore all realms appear inverted. Like clouds obscuring the nature of the sky, the darkness of ignorance obscures the inherent emptiness of beings in the world seeing things like blue, therefore, the realms seen by children are all inverted appearances and attachments. Although the reality cannot be seen because it is obscured by ignorance, how can it be seen inverted? In order to illustrate through metaphors that due to the power of ignorance, things that are not like that also appear as such: Due to the power of cataracts, some grasp hairs, double moons, The eyes of peacock feathers and bees, etc. Similarly, due to the power of ignorance, the unwise

Various appearances will be realized. Just as, due to the power of cataracts, some people with cataracts perceive things like nonexistent hairs and double moons, similarly, due to the power of ignorance, unwise children also, with mistaken cognition, think that various compounded phenomena, internal and external, are truly existent. If asked, how is this illusion of appearing when nonexistent understood? Actions arise dependent on ignorance; without ignorance, they do not arise. Only the unwise understand it that way. The sun of wisdom dispels the darkness, and the wise, realizing emptiness, become liberated. Virtuous and non-virtuous actions and so on arise dependent on ignorance, which has the nature of self-grasping, the cause of grasping at things as real. As it is said in the sutra: "Conditioned by ignorance are the formations." And, "This being associated with ignorance performs meritorious formations, performs non-meritorious formations, and performs unwavering formations." Therefore, without ignorance, those actions do not arise, for it is said, "When ignorance ceases, formations cease." Thus, only unwise children think and cling that formations, etc., truly arise from ignorance. But those who see the truth, the suchness, the wise ones who dispel the thick darkness of unknowing with the sun of wisdom, when they realize that formations are conditioned by ignorance, they also realize that formations are without inherent existence, empty. Therefore, they abandon ignorance and do not cling to formations, and thus they become liberated from samsara. Secondly, to refute the argument that if there is no inherent existence, it is contradictory to exist conventionally: If things do not exist in reality, then they also do not exist conventionally, like the son of a barren woman. Because they do not exist, therefore they are inherently existent, is that what you are saying? If these things, such as form, do not exist in reality, then just like the son of a barren woman, they also do not exist conventionally. Because they exist conventionally, therefore form and so on are inherently existent, is that what you are saying? To this,
