Therefore, the imputed nature is not established by its own characteristics even in name, like a rabbit's horn; the dependent nature, like a magic trick, does not arise from its own essence, but depends on other causes and conditions; the thoroughly established nature is the nature of emptiness even in name, so it is also without essence, and because it is not deceptive, it is also the ultimate truth. According to the Mind-Only school, the arising of the dependent nature is not without essence, because it is asserted that it arises from others in the ultimate sense. Having explained the refutation of arising from others along with its attendant faults, now we will explain the refutation of arising from both. There are two parts to this: the actual refutation and the conclusion. First, the naked ascetics say: external and internal things arise from both self and other. For example, when one wants a pot to arise from a lump of clay, a stick, a wheel, and a potter, since the clay and the pot are not different, it also arises from its own essence; since the potter and the wheel, etc., are different from the pot, it also arises from others. Similarly, internal things also arise from both self and other, because Maitreya, who exists as the essence of life in other lifetimes, takes this birth, so it arises from self, because Maitreya and life are not different. Because it also arises from parents, dharma, non-dharma, and defilements, etc., which have become other, it arises from others. Therefore, the refutation of arising from self and arising from others does not harm us, because we have not asserted that it arises only from self or only from others. That is not right either, like this: Arising from both is also unreasonable, because The faults already stated will fall upon it. Arising from both self and other is also unreasonable, because the faults already stated in both aspects will also fall here. Because the pot and Maitreya exist in the essence of clay and life, it is not arising, because if it arises from that, there will be no qualities. And so on, faults.

It is because it has already been explained. Because those are not born from the transformation of potters, wheels, sticks, etc., and Dharma and non-Dharma, etc., if something arises from relying on something else, then thick darkness would arise even from flames. The faults, etc., have already been explained. Secondly, it is for the purpose of concluding. This is not reasonable even in the world itself, because it is impossible for each individual thing to arise. Refuting arising from both Arising from both is not reasonable in worldly terms or in ultimate truth, because arising from each individual thing has been refuted in both truths. Furthermore, for example, when oil is extracted from a single sesame seed, many can also extract it, just as each grain of sand has no power, so many also have no power. Because it is impossible for each individual self and other to arise, arising from both does not exist. Refuting the assertion of no cause Fourth, refuting the assertion of no cause, divided into generally refuting arising from no cause, and specifically refuting the absence of a future life. First, the essentialists say, if things arise from a cause, then does it arise from self, other, or both? We have not accepted that things arise from a cause, so the faults mentioned above will not arise. Therefore, external and internal things arise from their own nature, such as the moisture of lotuses and the roughness and softness of petals, no one is seen to make them. The colors and shapes of its petals, stamens, and lotus pods are various, and no one is seen to make them either. Similarly, in the internal nature of peacocks, sapphires, crows, etc., no one is seen to seize them and arrange various colors and shapes, etc. Therefore, they arise from their own nature, they say. This is also unreasonable, if it were to arise solely from no cause, then at that time all things would always arise from all things. The people of the world would not collect seeds, etc., through hundreds of thousands of paths in order to achieve fruit. If external and internal things
