It is divided into ten places, namely: Sthavira, Sarvastivada, Vatsiputriya, Dharmottariya, Bhadrayaniya, Mahasamghika, Bahusrutiya, Dharmaguptaka, Kasyapiya, and the Lama. Among them, the second name of Sthavira is also called the Himavanta. Another name for the Sarvastivada is also called Vibhajyavada, Hetuvada. Some people also call it Muruntaka. Another name for the Mahasamghika is Bandhaka and Kurukula. The second name of Kasyapiya is also called Kasyapiya. For the Lama, some people also call it the Transfer. The second school is the same as before in terms of the time, place, and reason for the split, but there are three fundamental distinctions, namely: Sthavira, Mahasamghika, and Vibhajyavada. There are also two types of Sthavira, namely Sarvastivada and Vatsiputriya. There are also two types of Sarvastivada, namely: its own and Sautrantika. There are also four types of Vatsiputriya, namely: Mahasamghika, Dharmottariya, Bhadrayaniya, and the Six Cities. In this way, Sthavira is divided into six parts. There are also eight types of Mahasamghika, namely: its own, Eastern Mountain, Western Mountain, Rajagriha, Himavanta, Siddhatthaka, Chaityaka, and Gokulaka. There are also four types of Vibhajyavada, namely: the Earth Theory, Kasyapiya, Dharmaguptaka, and the Red Robe. The third school is that after the Blessed One passed away into Nirvana for one hundred and thirty-seven years, when King Ashoka and Lotus Great Being and others were gathering in the city of Pataliputra (Patna), most of the saints did not take rebirth again and attained the state of tranquility. At that time, the Great Saint Kasyapa, the Great Saint Naga, the Great Giver, the Lama, and Revata and others attained right view, and the Arhat Sangha was dwelling in that way. Devadatta and all those who were against the Dharma, holding the appearance of monks, showed various supernatural powers,

With five matters, a great schism in the Sangha was created. Those who were called Elder Nāga and the well-learned called Yid BrTan Pa praised the five matters. The five matters are: to follow and instruct, and to answer others with this; not knowing; doubt; complete investigation; self-nourishment is the path, saying that this is the teaching of the Buddha. Thereafter, the Sangha split into two factions and remained: the Sthavira school and the Mahāsāṃghika school. Thus, for sixty-three years, the Sangha remained divided, dwelling in conflict. Then, two hundred years after the Teacher's Parinirvana, the Sthavira Sthaviramati compiled the teachings accurately. After he had accurately compiled them, the Mahāsāṃghika Sangha split into six schools, and it is said that the Sthavira school split into twelve schools and remained. Master Śākyaprabha considers that seventeen other schools split off from the Sarvāstivāda itself. The Chinese abbot, in the commentary on the *Abhisamayālaṃkāra*, says that the Sarvāstivāda and the Mahāsāṃghika each split into ten schools, thus there are twenty schools. Furthermore, Master Vinayadeva also described the differences between the root and branches in the *Wheel of Different Schools*, slightly different, but did not finish writing. The fundamental vows and the meanings of the names of each of these schools should be understood in detail from the *Tarkajvālā*. Secondly, regarding the accurate compilation of the Mahayana canon, there is one fundamental compilation and two provisional compilations. Firstly, the fundamental compilers are Maitreya and Samantabhadra and other Bodhisattvas. In the *Tarkajvālā*, it says that the fundamental compilers are Samantabhadra, Mañjuśrī, Vajrapāṇi, Maitreya, and others, because they compiled it. Our own fundamental compilers are not Śrāvakas, because the Mahayana scriptures are not their domain. That is why it is said. Some say that in the chapter on the complete entrustment of the *Prajñāpāramitā*, because it was completely entrusted to the venerable Ānanda himself, the compiler of the Mahayana is the venerable Ānanda himself.

Others say: In the Ānanda Sūtra, when the Blessed One was old, he commanded the venerable Ānanda to attend him, saying, "I can also hold the Dharma taught by me." From then on, Ānanda reported, "I will attend the Blessed One for more than twenty years." From that, it says, "I have received eighty thousand aggregates of Dharma from the Blessed One, two are for the monks." From this quote, it is known that the venerable Ānanda did not hear all the Dharma from the Tathāgata, therefore he cannot collect all the sutras. The two collections at that time were: one was only to collect without damaging the scriptures; the other was to abandon the slander of Mahāyāna and promote its teachings. The first is the Nāgas who like the Dharma, because after the Blessed One passed away, there was no one in Jambudvīpa who became a vessel of Mahāyāna, so when no one collected the Mahāyāna sutras, they collected them and prayed for them to reside in the world of Nāgas and so on. Therefore, the Encouragement to Increase Intentional Virtue Sutra also says, "The Dharma is like a jewel, excellent and without defilement, the principle of purity, the crest of the Nāga king, the great beings respectfully accept it as a crown ornament, dispelling the darkness in the depths of the earth." This is what is said. The second is the noble Nāgārjuna, who brought many Mahāyāna sutras such as the Holy Perfection of Wisdom Sutra from the land of the Nāgas, and therefore promoted the Mahāyāna teachings in the human world. As it is said in the Light on the Reasoning, "Soon after the Blessed One passed away, the Śrāvakas and others were attached to their own teachings, and the collectors who did this collected them as they wished, because there was no one who became a vessel of the Mahāyāna scriptures, so no one collected them, so the Nāgas and others who were very happy with the Sugata collected them and prayed for them to reside in the world of the Nāgas and so on, the one who became its vessel was the noble one prophesied by the Buddha.
