From...it says, just as a doctor gives medicine to a sick person, similarly, the Buddha teaches the Dharma to sentient beings, only as mind-only. Thus it is said. The necessity is to refute the agent and the person, etc., examined by the proponents of self and other schools such as Ishvara. Also, in that very text, it says: 'I have taught in mind-only the person, the continuum, the entity, likewise, conditions and atoms, Ishvara, the agent, etc.' Because it is said so. There is also reason, in the Explanatory Sutra and others, it is shown that there is only other-powered mere-consciousness. If that is the true definitive meaning, then it should not contradict reason, because from the reason that will be explained below, the truly established consciousness is unbearable to examine. Therefore, in this sutra, the intention of saying that the middle is the meaning of guiding and the end is the meaning of definitive is to gradually guide those who are attached to characteristics and are afraid of emptiness, and to negate the agent and enjoyer other than mind-only in name. This can be understood through scripture and reason. Because it will be explained in detail below, it is not elaborated. Some people believe that there is a permanent Tathagatagarbha other than consciousness, and think that it is the intention of the final teaching, and then use this scripture to prove that the final teaching is definitive. This is like a person with a cut nose boasting of their beauty with borrowed ornaments. Because that view has even deviated from the view of the great chariots who consider the final teaching to be definitive. The reasons have been explained in detail elsewhere. Having briefly mentioned the way in which the Thubpa (Buddha) taught the Dharma, next, I will briefly explain how those who collected the scriptures collected them. There are two types of collections: the collection of the Hinayana Tripitaka and the collection of the Mahayana Tripitaka. First, the collection of the Hinayana is also divided into one fundamental collection and two temporary collections, which are known as three. The first is that the fundamental collectors are the great venerable Kashyapa, the attendant Ananda, and the venerable Kunda, etc. Not long after the Blessed One passed away, in Rajagriha (Royal City), five hundred Arhats

Just as it appears in the sutra of the Buddha correctly gathering the Dharma in the center, first is "Thus I have heard," and finally is the praise of what was spoken by the Blessed One, and in the intervening times, connections and relations, etc., are stated in an appropriate manner, and the three pitakas of the Lesser Vehicle were correctly gathered. Then, one hundred years after the Blessed One passed into nirvana, in the city of Vaishali, the monks of Vaishali damaged the Buddha's teachings with ten unlawful things, making them impure. At that time, the venerable Kirti and other seven hundred arhats refuted the ten unlawful things and performed an auspicious posadha, which is known as the Second Council. This Second Council arose from the subsidiary texts of the Vinaya. The Third Council is only known from the Abhidharma, and does not arise from the Vinaya. Before the Second Council occurred, there was no division into separate schools. After that, the work of Mara greatly increased, and some controversial doctrines arose, causing the schools to split. After the schools split, the Third Council apparently occurred, because relying on the sutra of the prophecy of King Krikri's dream, all the schools were gathered into the Buddha's teachings, and this is known as the Third Council. When did these various schools split, and how many kinds were there? On this, there are three opinions in the Nyayaloka. The first is that one hundred and sixteen years after the Buddha, the Blessed One, passed into complete nirvana, in a city called Pataliputra, when King Dharma Ashoka was ruling, due to the arising of some controversial doctrines, a great schism occurred in the sangha. It temporarily split into two schools and remained, namely the Mahasanghika and the Sthavira. Among them, the Mahasanghika school also gradually split, and existed in eight forms, namely the Mahasanghika school, the Ekavyavaharika, the Lokottaravada, the Bahushrutiya, the Prajnaptivada, the Chaityaka, the Purvashaila, and the Aparashaila. The Sthavira also gradually split into
