Its appearance is attached to external objects, if it exists here like a dream. If the consciousness of the senses such as the eye-consciousness is impossible because it is disturbed by it in sleep, then external objects such as form do not exist. However, only the consciousness of the mind deluded by sleep appears as an object, and in the dream state, it is only attached to external objects. Therefore, if the consciousness without an object arises in a dream, it also arises in this waking state, that is not right. Just as you think, the external object in the dream does not arise, and likewise, the consciousness does not arise. However, just as when one sees form when awake, the eye, form, and consciousness are recognized, likewise, in the dream state, these three are also recognized. Just as there, the eye and the object of the eye, form, are not true, likewise, the eye-consciousness produced by it is not true. Therefore, the object, senses, and consciousness of the dream state are all false. The remaining three, ear, etc., are also not produced. Likewise, the objects, senses, and consciousness from the ear to the mind in the dream state are also not produced. Therefore, since the object, senses, and consciousness of the dream state are all false, it is not right to say that the consciousness of the mind is truly existent. Not only are the object, senses, and consciousness of the dream state false, but also like a dream, it is the same when awake. Things are false, the mind does not exist, there is no object of experience, and the senses do not exist. Just as the object, senses, and consciousness of the dream state are false, it is the same when awake. In general, all things, internal and external, are false, and in particular, the mind that grasps, the object of experience that is grasped, and the senses that are the basis are not truly established. Therefore, the sutra says: Sentient beings are like a dream, this

There is no death or birth in it, The names and lives of beings cannot be found, All these dharmas are like bubbles and trees on water. So it is said. Furthermore, This is like being awake, until when, Not awakened, until then there are these three. Just as when awakened, all three do not exist, So it is from awakening from the sleep of ignorance. In this world, just as in the state of being awake there are object, faculty, and consciousness, so until one has not awakened from sleep, the person in the dream has all three: object, faculty, and consciousness. Because there is the appearance of the three, and there is also attachment to the appearance. Just as when awakened from sleep, the three in the dream do not exist, so just as until one has not awakened from the sleep of ignorance, object, faculty, and consciousness all exist equally. When one awakens from the sleep of ignorance, and directly realizes the dharmadhatu that is free from all elaboration, then these three, like when awakened, no longer appear. Therefore, consciousness without an object is unreasonable. Second, refuting the example of sense consciousness being mistaken: If because someone with cataracts sees non-existent hairs, etc., therefore even without an external object, there is consciousness, then, To this there are two refutations: a direct refutation, and a refutation that eliminates its faults. The first is: If there is mind without an object of knowledge, Then by what mind with a faculty afflicted by cataracts, What hairs are seen by the power of cataracts, Dependent on that mind, both are true. For seeing things clearly, both are false. The mind of the eye faculty afflicted with cataracts, by the power deluded by cataracts, whatever object such as hairs is seen, also dependent on the appearing mind, both the object and the subject are true, because they appear as such. Relative to seeing things clearly without cataracts, both the object and the subject are false, because neither appears. Therefore, a subject consciousness without an object never exists. If it is not like that, if there is mind without an object of knowledge, Then the object of the hair and related to the eye, Even without cataracts, the hair would become consciousness, It is not so, therefore it does not exist. If the object of knowledge
