Without dwelling on the real, yet showing what is near, Residing in the Buddha-nature, Without abandoning any non-real, This is acting in accordance with the world. Not seeing meaning and meaninglessness, Cessation and the ultimate meaning, Those who speak say it is supreme, This is acting in accordance with the world. Without destruction and without arising, Although equal to the realm of Dharma, Showing the eon of burning, This is acting in accordance with the world. In the three times, sentient beings, Not focusing on the nature of sentient beings, Also showing the realm of sentient beings, This is acting in accordance with the world. Thus it is extensively spoken. Incidentally refuting the tenets of the Mind-Only school. Secondly, incidentally refuting the tenets of the Mind-Only school, which is divided into establishing their tenets and refuting them. First, the establishment: Thus, the Madhyamikas teach that the ālaya-vijñāna, etc., are of provisional meaning, and explain that all dharmas are without inherent existence. However, the Mind-Only school cannot tolerate this view, and they elaborate on meaning through the system fabricated by their own conceptual thoughts. In order to refute the system they have spoken of, it is said: Without grasping, no grasper is seen, Three realms are well understood as mind-only, The bodhisattva abiding in wisdom, Realizes that very thing as mind-only. The bodhisattva mahāsattva on the sixth ground, who abides in the practice of the Perfection of Wisdom, will thoroughly realize the ultimate reality of all dharmas as the nature of mind-only. Why is that? Because this bodhisattva, through the reasoning that will be explained, does not see the grasped object of the mind, and therefore does not see the grasper that depends on it. And because he has long been accustomed to the idea that the three realms are mind-only, devoid of external objects, when the habit becomes extreme, he will thoroughly realize, in his own self-awareness, that inexpressible mind-only that is free from grasper and grasped. If it is merely mind-only without objects, then how do the consciousnesses that appear as objects such as form arise? Just as the ocean is stirred by the wind, And great waves arise from it, From the ālaya, the seed of all, Arises the power of mind-only.
