It must be vowed to accept, otherwise, it will not be possible to establish form, etc., as the object of consciousness. If it is said that the example is not established because the image also exists like form, then those who are in the corner should also see the image in the mirror like the form, because the form and the image appear in the same place. If it is said that it is not visible because the corner of the mirror is obscured, then the surface of the mirror should also be invisible. Or, if the form and image on the surface of the mirror are in different places, that is also unreasonable, because it would be a fault to perceive the image on the back of the mirror, etc. If it is said that there is no fault because it exists inside the mirror, then the image of the mirror should not be visible from the front either, because it is obscured by the form of the mirror. If it is said that the form of the mirror is very clear and does not obscure, then the form inside the mirror should also be visible like the image. In this way, not only will it not become the fault of annihilation, but it will also not become the fault of permanence, because there is not the slightest nature of the unborn. For those who speak of no-self-nature, although the relationship of cause and effect is reasonable in the manner described above, but because there is no basis, will it become that others do and others experience? If it is said that the person who is labeled based on the aggregates at the time of creating karma and the person who is labeled based on the aggregates at the time of experiencing the result are different, then that fault will occur. But those are not other, because the former is the basis for the latter to arise, and what arises based on what, that arises from that, is neither that itself nor other, which has already been established before. In this way, the Madhyamikas do not deny the relationship of cause and effect like nihilists, nor do they add to it like realists, but in the manner described above, they abandon all extremes of permanence and annihilation and vow to accept dependent origination. This profound dependent origination is the single path of all Sugatas.

Just as those without wings cannot fly in the sky, those who are not proficient in the two wings of conventional truth and ultimate truth cannot easily walk the path of dependent origination. That's all. Secondly, regarding the incidentally mentioned basis of karma and its effects, it is explained as provisional meaning: If the connection of karma is established in a way that is without inherent existence, as mentioned earlier, then, in the Sutra of Lanka and other scriptures, the alaya-vijñana, which is said to be the basis for the accumulation of habits of limitless dharmas, possessing all seeds, like waves arising from the ocean, and whose nature is the cause for all defiled dharmas to arise according to conditions, is this completely non-existent? It is not, because for the sake of taming those to be tamed, it is taught that such an alaya-vijñana exists by way of expediency. So, based on what intention is it said that alaya-vijñana exists? It is said based on the emptiness of the nature of all dharmas, because emptiness follows the nature of all things, so it can serve as the meaning of the word alaya-vijñana. If it is not like this, but there is an alaya-vijñana that exists according to the literal meaning, then the faults will be explained later. Not only alaya-vijñana, but also pudgala is said to exist based on some intention, as it is said in the sutra: "Bhiksus, the five skandhas are a burden, and the bearer of the burden is the pudgala." For some, only the five skandhas are shown, as it is said in the sutra: "What is called mind, what is called intellect, what is called consciousness, if it is cultivated for a long time with faith, discipline, etc., and continues to grow, then in the next life it will be reborn in a higher realm." All of these are said based on some intention. So, what is the intention here? The so-called alaya-vijñana exists, the so-called pudgala exists, the so-called only these skandhas exist, these statements are addressed to those who cannot understand the profound meaning. In which sutras is it taught that these skandhas, which are separate from alaya-vijñana, pudgala, and self, exist only? This is for those who have been for a long time

Because of being accustomed to the views of non-Buddhists, they will not understand the deepest meaning of emptiness, and they will be afraid of hearing about emptiness, thus turning their backs on the Dharma. It is in order to gradually bring those people into the Buddhist teachings that this is taught. For those people, when first teaching the Alaya Consciousness and so on, they will think that although there is no "self" and "lord" as the non-Buddhists believe, the basis of karma and the foundation of samsara and nirvana can also be the Alaya Consciousness and so on, and thinking this way, they will enter the teachings of the Sugata. Later, when they correctly understand the meaning of the scriptures, they will abandon their attachment to the Alaya Consciousness and so on, and only merit will arise, and no faults will be incurred. As Aryadeva said: "Whatever one likes, one should first practice that. If that becomes degenerate, it is not a vessel of the true Dharma." It is like this. It is not only for the sake of introduction that the Alaya Consciousness and so on are taught, but also, even if one is free from the view of the aggregates, the Buddha also said like this: "As it is said, 'I' and 'mine'." Similarly, although things have no self-nature, they are said to "exist" in order to understand the meaning of the world. Even if one has completely abandoned the view of the aggregates and there is no "I" and "mine", the terms "I" and "mine" are the means to understand the meaning of the world. Therefore, the Buddha, the Bhagavan, said, "I was in that time and place," and so on. Similarly, although things do not inherently exist, in order to understand the meaning of the world, it is said that the internal and external things such as form and feeling "exist," which is just a provisional teaching. It is like this, in the verses that are in accordance with the arguments of the Eastern Mountain School: "If the guides of the world do not conform to the world, what is the Dharma nature of the Buddha? No one will know the Buddha. The aggregates and the elements, the nature of the sense bases is considered to be one, showing those three realms, this is conforming to the world. Even the nameless Dharmas, with inconceivable names, are completely expressed to sentient beings, this is conforming to the world."
