Because I will become existent, because the seed and the sprout are one, and because on one there are two contradictory aspects of being able to be grasped and not being able to be grasped. Therefore, those who want to avoid the faults mentioned above will not admit that the seed and the sprout are one. Second, refuting self-origination in name: Because even when the cause is destroyed, the effect is seen. The world also does not admit that they are one. Because, when the cause called the seed is destroyed and has ceased, the effect called the sprout is also seen. Therefore, the world also does not admit that the seed and the sprout are one, if they are one, then the seed should also be seen like the sprout. Therefore, this examination that things arise from themselves is not reasonable in either that suchness or the world. Because from whichever aspect it is viewed, self-origination contradicts reason, therefore, others think that things arise from themselves, this examination is not reasonable in either that suchness ultimate truth and the worldly conventional truth. Second, the conclusion of refutation: If one thinks of self-origination, then the object to be produced and the producer, and the action and the agent, if they become one, then they are not one, therefore one should not admit that things arise from themselves, because one will fall into the faults extensively explained above. If one thinks that things arise from themselves, then the object to be produced and the producer, and the action and the agent also become one, then they are not one, because the father and the son, and the eye and the eye's consciousness will also become one. Therefore, one should not admit that things arise from themselves, because one will fall into the faults extensively explained above. Refuting other-origination: Second, refuting other-origination, divided into: directly refuting other-origination, and incidentally refuting the views of the Mind-Only school. The first part is further divided into: stating the opponent's view and refuting it. The first part is: One's own school says: Here, things do not arise from themselves, saying this is reasonable. But, saying "nor do they arise from others" is unreasonable, because like this, there are four conditions that can transform things, namely cause, immediate cause, and objective

And, the dominant condition is the factor that causes things to arise, which should be acknowledged based on the scriptures. Among the six causes, the efficient cause is discarded, and the other five are the co-existing conditions. The object of the six consciousnesses is the objective condition. Except for the final Arhat's mind and mental factors, the remaining minds and mental factors are the immediately preceding condition. The efficient cause is the dominant condition, so they say. Others say: 'The cause that accomplishes is the cause.' In the definition, whatever is born from something and exists in the state of a seed, that is its co-existing condition, just as an old man relies on a cane to stand up. Minds and mental factors arise from causes, and whatever arises relying on an object, that is the objective condition. The immediate cessation of a cause is the immediately preceding condition for the arising of the result. If something exists, then something arises, that is the dominant condition. Any condition that arises simultaneously, and those that arise later, etc., are all included here. Ishvara (自在天) and others are not conditions, therefore there is no fifth condition, so they say. What the Tathagata said about the four conditions in the Dharma Skandha and so on, that is a nominal establishment, not the ultimate truth. Some schools establish the four real conditions, but that is not what the Tathagata said, because it contradicts reason and scripture. Therefore, the four conditions examined by others should be refuted in both truths. Regarding this, the teacher has already refuted the individual characteristics of the four conditions in the Root Verses of the Middle Way, so here only a general refutation is shown, without separate refutations. Secondly, refuting it involves refuting in both truths, and eliminating the unreasonableness of the refutation. Firstly, there are two types of refutation: mere refutation and nominal refutation. Mere refutation also includes saying that cause and effect are excessively different entities, showing that they are not different entities, and refuting by examining the four extremes. Regarding the first case, if another arises relying on another, then thick darkness would arise from a human tongue, and all things would arise from all things, because for all non-producers, it is also another.
