This Bodhisattva, having become purified from the defilements of discordant actions of body, speech, and mind, therefore, naturally accumulates the ten paths of virtuous actions relied upon by the noble ones, and is therefore perfect in morality. Therefore, in the Sutra of the Ten Grounds, it says: 'O sons of the Victorious Ones, the Bodhisattva abiding on the stainless ground of a Bodhisattva naturally abandons killing.' And so on, 'With upright and unwavering views, without deceit, he has firm conviction in the Buddha, Dharma, and Sangha.' And so on. Furthermore, one might ask: Do Bodhisattvas who have generated the mind of enlightenment for the first time not accumulate these paths of action? The answer is: They do accumulate them, but these ten paths of virtue, when attributed to them, become exceedingly pure. These ten paths of virtuous action, when attributed to a Bodhisattva abiding in the second generation of the mind of enlightenment, become exceedingly pure, but they do not become so for a Bodhisattva abiding in the first generation of the mind of enlightenment. Therefore, 'Like the autumn moon, always pure, adorned by those peaceful and radiant qualities.' That Bodhisattva, like the cloudless autumn moon, is always pure from the defilements of lax morality, pacified by subduing the senses, and radiant like a flame, adorned by those pure moralities. To show the opposing aspects of morality, it is said: 'If one sees this discipline as self-nature, then that is not pure discipline.' If a person who guards discipline sees himself as the self-nature of pure discipline, then he will not be pure in discipline, because he possesses the defilement of pride in discipline. Likewise, in the Noble Jewel Heap Sutra, it also says: 'Light Protector, here some monks possess discipline, they restrain themselves with the vows of individual liberation and abide therein, possessing perfect rituals and conduct, fearing even the slightest transgression, properly taking and learning all the grounds of learning, and completely...

Because of having purity, even if life is completely pure, it is said to have self. The light protector (འོད་སྲུངས།) is the first way to disguise breaking precepts as having precepts. And so on. Therefore, that is always for all three, free from the object of dualistic mind. Because having manifest clinging is not completely pure in precepts, therefore, the Bodhisattva who abides in stainlessness is always free from the object of dualistic mind such as real and unreal for all three: from where to abandon, what to abandon, and by what to abandon. Secondly, regarding the praise of precepts, there is showing that precepts are the basis of all merits, showing that the precepts of Bodhisattvas do not associate with incompatible aspects, and showing the difference between mundane and supramundane. From the first aspect, if the foot of a being's precepts is broken, even if giving has enjoyment, it will fall into the lower realms. And so on. The giver's giving with precepts will obtain particularly superior enjoyment among gods and humans, but if the giver's being's foot of precepts is broken and becomes a breaker of precepts, even if he obtains enjoyment through giving, he will fall into temporary sentient beings, hells, dragons, and hungry ghosts with great magical powers, etc., and there he will enjoy the fruits of giving. When the giver's giving with precepts obtains enjoyment in the places of gods and humans, he gives again, so that he constantly enjoys the fruits of giving, but giving without the foot of precepts does not produce constant enjoyment, like this, because the principal together with interest is completely exhausted, thereafter no enjoyment will arise for him. Beings born in the lower realms are ignorant of the connection of karma and result, so they only exhaust the fruits of previous giving together with interest, and do not continue to give for the sake of future fruits, so the principal of future enjoyment is completely exhausted, thereafter
