However, their suffering, due to the power of compassion, becomes a cause for engaging in the benefit of sentient beings. For example: Cutting and giving away the body, with my suffering, Seeing the suffering of other beings, such as those in hell, as my own, For the sake of cutting it off, one strives for it. When a Bodhisattva cuts and gives away the body, experiencing the suffering that arises from it, From that, inferring that the suffering of other sentient beings, such as the three lower realms of hell, is a hundred times greater than this, Thinking in this way, unable to bear their suffering, seeing it as if experiencing it oneself, Disregarding the suffering of cutting flesh from one's own body, etc., For the sake of constantly cutting off their suffering, that Bodhisattva greatly increases effort. Third, to show the distinction between worldly and transcendental perfections, it is said: Giving, the object of giving, the receiver, the giver, are empty, It is called the transcendental perfection. Thus it is said. This giving is also completely grasped by the perfection of wisdom, If the object of giving, the receiver, and the giver are empty and free from fixation, then it is the transcendental perfection. The Blessed Mother said in the Perfection of Wisdom Sutra, Because not fixating on the three spheres is transcendental. That is not present for those who have not attained the state of the ultimate Bodhisattva. Furthermore, Attachment arises towards the three, Therefore, it is shown as the worldly perfection. To whatever giving, Attachment arises and manifests clinging to the object of giving, the receiver, and the giver, that is shown as the worldly perfection, Because fixating on the three spheres is included in conventional truth, it is worldly. Third, showing the conclusion from the perspective of stating the qualities of the ground: Thus, the prince dwells well in the mind, Light arises on the support of the holy ones, becoming beautiful, This joy, like a jewel crystal, Completely dispels all darkness and suffering and triumphs. In the manner described above, this very joyful ground

It can completely eliminate all the thick darkness of its own opposing side and become victorious. What is the analogy? It is like a perfect moon made of crystal. Then, what is the Joyful Ground like? It abides perfectly in the mind of the victorious son who has attained the first generation of Bodhicitta. On the pure basis of Bodhicitta, it possesses the light of non-conceptual wisdom and is adorned by the absence of the defilements of the opposing side. In the Introduction to the Middle Way, it is said: The so-called Joyful Ground is the explanation of the first generation of Bodhicitta of a Bodhisattva. Explanation of the Second Chapter Now, let us explain the second generation of Bodhicitta of a Bodhisattva, the Immaculate Ground. This should be understood through three aspects: thus, the nature of the ground is shown through the way of pure morality; incidentally, the praise of morality is shown; and the qualities of the ground are stated and then concluded. From the first aspect: Because it is complete with the perfection of morality and pure qualities, even in dreams, it abandons the defilements of immoral conduct. And so on, it is said that the Bodhisattva who abides on the second generation of Bodhicitta, because of the perfection of morality, possesses the complete purity of the qualities of his own ground, so even in the state of dreams, he abandons the defilements of impure morality and does not practice it, let alone when he is awake. Then, what is morality? Its essence is the seven types of abandonment, and it is motivated by the three roots of virtue, such as non-attachment. Therefore, if it has intention, it is established as the nature of the ten virtuous paths of action. Why is it called morality? Because it does not accept afflictions, and because it does not produce sins, it calms the mind and feels cool, or because it becomes the cause of happiness, it is to be relied upon by the noble ones, so it is called morality. Impure morality is the ten non-virtuous paths of action that are opposed to it. And how is it that the Bodhisattva is completely pure in qualities because of the perfection of morality? The activities of body, speech, and mind are all pure, and he constantly practices the ten virtuous deeds and other noble actions. Abiding on the second ground
