After manifestation, the enjoyment of Dharma will not last long. Therefore, the fruit of the noble Sangha will not be transmitted and increased one by one. Thus, compassion is like being fully ripened. Secondly, to explain the nature from the perspective of object and aspect, praising compassion: Compassion also has three types due to the difference of object, namely, compassion towards sentient beings, compassion towards phenomena, and compassion without object. The first is to focus on sentient beings with substance, with the aspect of wishing them to be free from suffering. The second is to focus on the object that is merely the Dharma of aggregates, which is falsely established as sentient beings, with the aspect of wishing them to be free from suffering. The third is to focus on sentient beings like illusions, with the aspect of wishing them to be free from suffering. The first is possessed by ordinary people. The second is possessed by Shravakas and Pratyekabuddhas. The third is possessed by Bodhisattvas and Buddhas. Those who believe that Shravakas and Pratyekabuddhas have not realized the selflessness of phenomena think so. Here, the latter two compassions have the same essence, but are distinguished from the perspective of antonyms, and all noble beings possess these two compassions, which will be explained later. Now, in order to start prostrating by manifesting the difference of the nature of compassion towards sentient beings, wanting to compose a verse: First clinging to self, and then grasping things as mine, like a rope of a water bucket, without autonomy, I prostrate to the one who has compassion for the wandering beings. Thus it is said. Prostrate to that. To whom to prostrate? To the compassion that liberates sentient beings from suffering and the cause of suffering, with this characteristic. What kind of sentient beings? Like the rope of a water bucket, sentient beings who wander in the beginningless cycle of existence without autonomy due to the power of karma and afflictions. From what cause do they wander? From first clinging to self, clinging to the aggregates of one's own appropriation as a non-self, and then grasping sentient and non-sentient things that should not be grasped as mine.

Therefore, they wander aimlessly. How are sentient beings similar to the rope of a water bucket? They are similar in six ways. Just as the rope of a water bucket has six characteristics: being bound by a rope, being under the control of another maker, revolving in a well, going down by itself and being drawn up with effort, being unable to determine the order of beginning, middle, and end, and having the nature of being worn away day by day. Just as the rope of a water bucket has six characteristics, sentient beings also have six characteristics: these worlds that cling to self and what belongs to self are tightly bound by the rope of karma and afflictions; they depend on the actions of the maker of consciousness to enter; they wander deeply and uninterruptedly in the great well of samsara, from the peak of existence to the depths of Avici hell; they descend spontaneously into the three lower realms, and must be drawn upwards with effort to the realms of gods and humans; although there are the three completely defiled states of affliction, karma, and birth, the order of prior, subsequent, and intermediate cannot be determined; because they are broken down day by day by the suffering of suffering and the suffering of change, they do not exceed the state of the water bucket rope. Now, in order to clarify the two types of compassion, with and without an object, through the door of having an object, wanting to pay homage, it is said: "Sentient beings are like the moon in moving water, seeing their movement and emptiness of nature." Having said this, it is added: "I bow to that which has become compassion." How does it become compassion? Just as when the wind stirs slightly and the image of the moon appears in very clear water, through seeing the momentary movement of sentient beings and their emptiness of nature because they have no birth in ultimate truth, it has the aspect of wanting to free them from suffering. Why? If compassion arises from seeing sentient beings as similar to the moon in water, it is because when the image of the moon appears in water that is very clear, not strong wind, and partially covered with moisture, the holy ones clearly reveal the nature of these two in this way.
