Even without conceptualization, if there is some consciousness, then the knowable must also exist. For no consciousness without a knowable has ever been seen. Thus, the elaboration of the knowable and consciousness is not pacified. Like the state of a child, conceptualization will not cease. Even so, the Tathagata is not without the conventional expression of the wisdom that knows the suchness and the extent of things, for by relying on the accumulation of wisdom over many eons, immeasurable qualities such as powers and fearlessness arise. These qualities such as powers are also merely conceptual constructs, because they are dependently originated, like illusions and so forth. Whatever is merely constructed does not exist without conceptualization, just as the conceptualization of demons and snakes on drawings and ropes does not arise without conceptualization. When a yogi fully awakens to all phenomena in all aspects, all conceptualizations cease. The conceptualizations of qualities such as powers also cease. If these qualities are merely constructs, then why does the conceptualization of possessing qualities such as powers not arise in everyone? If it were true that these are merely constructed by conceptualization at will, without relying on causes and conditions, then there would be a fault. These are constructed as arising from the special causes and conditions of having long been accustomed to the accumulation of wisdom, so there is no fault. If it is said that things arising from causes and conditions should not be merely constructed because they are established by their own characteristics, that is not correct. If they were established by their own characteristics, they should not depend on causes and conditions, because their own nature is already established as dependent on others. The treatise also says: "Self-nature is uncreated and does not depend on others." Therefore, those who say that the Tathagata has self-sufficient, self-characterized wisdom, and others who say that the Tathagata has no wisdom at all, like in states of sleep and fainting, both fall into the extremes of exaggeration and denigration, and therefore do not truly realize the qualities of the Tathagata.

We acknowledge the qualities possessed by the Tathagata, as described in the Sutra Pitaka, and by accepting the principle of dependent origination, we avoid falling into either extreme of exaggeration or denigration. For those who speak of dependent origination, there is no vow that leads to being caught in the criticisms of others, even in conventional terms. This is because it has been said before. Therefore, the scriptures also say, "Where are the four, such as permanence and impermanence, in peace? Where are the four, such as end and endlessness, in peace?" This is what is being said. We do not merely acknowledge the qualities of the Tathagata in that way, but we acknowledge all phenomena encompassed by defilement and purification as dependent origination, free from all extremes even in conventional terms, and as being of the nature of mere conditions. However, if even the great charioteers of the noble land cannot comprehend this principle, how can these blind beings of the snowy land hope to make it an object of their wisdom? Secondly, refuting the objection that it is unreasonable to reveal Suchness to the world: Although it is true that when a yogi directly realizes the Dharmakaya, the activity of mind and mental factors ceases, it is not impossible to reveal Suchness to the world. It is like this: "His Enjoyment Body, complete with merit, and Emanations, from other realms, by that power, whatever sound reveals the meaning of Dharma, from that the world also knows Suchness." The body of the Tathagatas, in which they reside and directly realize the Dharmakaya, is the body endowed with a hundred merits, which becomes the cause of the enjoyment of Dharma for the Bodhisattvas, and is therefore called the Enjoyment Body. From such a body born of a hundred merits, the sound of the Tathagata's blessings arises, such as, "Manjushri, unborn and unceasing." From that sound, the disciples who become vessels for teaching the Dharma in that way will surely realize Suchness without error. A hundred merits.

Not to mention the arising from the emanation body, from those blessed emanation bodies, any sound that clearly elucidates the Dharma, the world will also realize the truth because of that. Not only does it arise from the emanation body, but even by the power of the Tathagatas, even if the activities arising from mind and mental factors have ceased, from other things such as the sky, trees, walls, rocks, etc., any sound that clearly elucidates the Dharma arises, the world will also realize the truth because of that. If for those things that do not arise from mind and mental factors, because there is no activity of mind, the actions of body and speech do not intervene, then how can they become the cause of activities such as teaching the Dharma? To illustrate this, an external example is given: Just as a potter with his strength, the wheel that has been spun for a long time with great effort, even though the effort of spinning is not currently produced, it still spins and is seen as the cause of pots and so on. Similarly, even though there is no effort of the three doors currently produced, residing in the Dharmakaya which possesses the nature of Dharma, the activity that naturally occurs in accordance with the capacity of the beings to be tamed is due to the particularity of the merit matured by the beings to be tamed listening to the Dharma from the Buddhas, and in the past, during the stage of practicing the Bodhisattva conduct, just as these Buddhas, the Bhagavat, although they do not have conceptual thoughts now, like wish-fulfilling jewels and wish-fulfilling trees, accomplish the benefit of sentient beings in accordance with what is appropriate, and do not move for even a moment from the realm of Dharma, nor do they miss the time to tame sentient beings, may I also become like that, this is the aspiration of the prayer.
