My suffering and others are due to others, as if they were non-existent. The characteristic of conditioned phenomena is impermanence. From where does it come? If it arises without impermanence, it is also unreasonable, because conditioned phenomena are impermanent. If you want to abandon that fault and admit that the characteristic and the basis are one, then at that time, the three characteristics and the basis, all four, are not clearly existent in nature, so they will cease to exist, because they are one with the basis. The characteristic will not become a characteristic, and because it is one with the characteristic, the basis will not become a basis either. Therefore, all four are non-existent, or without essence, so it should not be admitted that this is that, or different from this. Fourth, examining existence and non-existence to refute: Birth and so on exist, because they have causes. Here, the wise call the arising of sprouts and so on, relying on the aggregation of such and such causes and conditions, as birth. If something arises from something, then birth and so on will become real, but in reality it is not so. For example, a sprout that has become a real thing does not arise from a seed that has become a real thing, because a seed that has not changed does not have the function of producing a sprout, and a sprout that has already been formed should not arise again. If the fruit has become a real thing, then it does not arise from a cause that is not a real thing, because a non-real thing does not have the ability to produce a fruit, and what has already been born should not arise again. If the fruit is not a real thing, it does not arise from a cause that is not a real thing either, because a non-real thing has no ability, and a non-real thing is like the son of a barren woman, without arising. If the fruit is not a real thing, it does not arise from a cause that has already become a real thing, because it will fall into the fault that has already been mentioned. Therefore, birth is impossible, and the aggregation of causes and conditions is meaningless. From this, there is also no characteristic, because birth and destruction are unreasonable. Here, are birth and destruction the nature of real things, or the nature of non-real things? Think about it a little. Among them, for the time being, it is considered that the nature of the real thing itself has been formed, then it becomes a real thing again.

Therefore, it will not arise. Because the arising of what already exists is meaningless. Non-existence, that which is not already existent, will also not arise, because that would lead to the absurdity of a barren woman's child also arising. Since things and non-things cannot arise, there is no arising. Similarly, there is no destruction. Because non-things will be destroyed, but will not become non-things. For what is not already existent, like a barren woman's child, there is no destruction. Things also will not become non-things, because they are mutually contradictory. Third, refuting the nature of what is in the process of arising. It is divided into two parts: the actual refutation and the summary of the meaning. The first part has four points. The first point is refuting that half-arisen is in the process of arising. It is divided into two parts: refuting the essence and refuting the argument. The first part is: Here someone says that things and non-things do not arise, but the meaning of what is in the process of arising does arise. What is called being in the process of arising refers to half-arisen and half-unarisen. Therefore, being in the process of arising does not exist, because there is no third form other than what is already arisen and what is not yet arisen. Therefore, the being in the process of arising of non-existence will not arise. If it is thought that what has arisen and what has not arisen are in the process of arising, then all three times will become in the process of arising, because what has arisen and what has not arisen are both in the process of arising, and the three times also belong to these two. The past and present have already obtained the action of arising, so they are arisen; the future is unarisen. Furthermore, if one thinks about this being in the process of arising, is one thinking of the subject of being in the process of arising, or is one thinking of something that is not the subject of being in the process of arising? Neither case is reasonable. Because as the subject of being in the process of arising, it already exists in its own nature, so it will not become being in the process of arising again. What is not the subject of being in the process of arising will also not become being in the process of arising, because they are mutually contradictory. Therefore, there is no being in the process of arising. The second part is: If being in the process of arising exists, it is because it exists between the past and the future. If it does not exist, then relying on what does it become the past and the future? If it exists, then what has not reached there is the future, and what has passed beyond there is the past.
