Now, regarding this, the refutations against both those who assert the existence and non-existence of a result should be directed towards a single opponent. If one believes that neither exists, if there are both existence and non-existence of a result, and if by negating them it becomes neither, then when neither existence nor non-existence is established, by negating what does it become neither? This is the reasoning behind it. Secondly, the reason for mistaking things as real is shown: If things are without inherent existence in this way, then by what reasoning are those who assert the existence of things in their own and other schools satisfied, and thus conceive things as existing? Although there is no reasoning for this, just as a flickering lamp perishes in an instant, as long as the collection of causes and conditions exists, the cause and effect of the previous and subsequent moments arise without interruption. Similarly, conditioned phenomena perish in an instant, and when the collection of causes and conditions exists, the continuum of moments arising without interruption, due to not fully understanding its own nature and observing incorrectly, the non-Buddhist sages remember their former abodes. And here, not directly seeing the conditioned phenomena perish in an instant, they think that the self or the world is permanent. Likewise, arising in dependence on this and that collection of causes and conditions, arising and changing from arising, mind and mental factors, characteristics and bases, houses and pots, etc., like reflections and echoes, taking the inverted views of the world as valid from this and that, and approaching or relying on them to guide the world, they merely posit their own and general characteristics. These, even when arising, only the aggregates arise, and when ceasing, only the aggregates cease. Even so, because they do not understand the nature of that aggregate as it is and observe incorrectly, the debaters, without reason, rely solely on inversion and thus conceive that internal and external things are truly existent. Thirdly, the reason for the absence of truth is shown in brief: If our view of things is inverted, then since you do not accept things, you will become someone who views things as non-existent, which is also very unreasonable, because seeing

If someone asks, saying that seeing and not seeing are contradictory, what is the reason for that? We are not saying that things do not exist, but because we proclaim dependent origination. What is the meaning of dependent origination? It is the meaning of no self-nature, like illusions, mirages, reflections, etc., it is the meaning of emptiness and selflessness. For example, whatever is established by its own nature does not depend on others, therefore it is not dependent origination. All compounded things arise dependently. Therefore, whatever thing exists depending on something else, it will not be independent, because it arises depending on causes and conditions. All these things are without independence. Therefore, no thing has the nature of self. Therefore, dependent origination is the meaning of being devoid of its own essence, it is the meaning of emptiness, but it is not the meaning that all things do not exist. Therefore, to engage in the form of superimposition or denigration on dependent origination like illusion is a perversion to view things as existing or not existing. And for those who accept dependent origination as illusion, there is no opportunity for the fault of permanence or annihilation. Fourth, explaining the necessity of realizing the absence of truth: Because nothing is born by its own essence, therefore there is no gathering without cause and effect for all external and internal things. What is established by its own nature is permanent and does not depend on the fruit. Those who gather for the sake of the fruit are not gathered for the noble ones who see its nature, that is, they do not consider it to be true. For this very reason, the seed of sentient beings in existence is the ignorance of afflictions, which is the consciousness that clings to things as real. Forms and other objects are its objects of enjoyment. As mentioned before, by seeing that objects do not have the nature of self in this way, the seed of craving, the afflicted consciousness, will cease. From this, the Shravakas, Pratyekabuddhas, and Bodhisattvas who have attained forbearance of non-arising dharmas are established as turning away from samsara. The seed of the arising of the Buddha's wisdom, the mind of enlightenment, is the opposite of that, for all Tathagatagarbha.
