If it is said that even though there are many forms, etc., it will not lead to having many pots. Then, even if forms, smells, etc., are combined in a mutually agreeable way, will they become form-smell itself? Or will smell become form itself? This is unreasonable because those in the aggregate do not abandon their own characteristics. Because forms, smells, etc., do not become one nature even when they gather together, it is said, "Because the characteristics are different, it is not one pot." Just as it is said, because the characteristics are different, the aggregate should not be one either. Although this verse will appear later in the root text, it is explained earlier due to the connection of meaning. When forms, etc., cannot be the cause for applying the name 'pot,' then others cannot be the cause either, so there is no cause for applying the name to a pot. And for something without a cause, it itself will not become the object of applying a name—the effect. Because this is the case, there is no pot other than the form, etc., limbs. If it is thought that the pot is not the proximate cause of form, etc., but depends on its own limbs, tiles, etc., as the effect, and the tiles are the cause, then the pot is produced from the cause of tiles, etc., and the cause of tiles, etc., is produced from other causes such as gravel. Then, how can the tile, which is not produced from itself, generate another effect, the pot, with its own nature? Therefore, the pot does not exist by nature. This way of refuting the pot should be applied to refuting all effects. Second, refuting the real existence of aggregates: If analyzed with the reasoning as stated above, just as there is no pot existing apart from form, there is also no form, smell, etc., existing apart from the great elements such as earth, water, fire, and wind, because it would become causeless. Similarly, just as there is no form, smell, etc., existing apart from wind, etc., the elements themselves are not established by their own nature without depending on each other. For example, here, fire is the burner, and the other three elements are the ones to be burned. Their arising

When only three kinds of firewood are burned by fire, the firewood becomes hot and turns into fire itself, not the firewood to be burned. How can firewood that is not hot be burned? Because it is not related to fire. Apart from these two, there is no other combustible material, so the so-called firewood that does not depend on fire, if it does not exist by its own nature, then without firewood there is no cause, so there is no fire. If it is said that firewood is of the nature of hardness, etc., even if it is not hot, it is suppressed by fire and becomes hot, so it is combustible, then why doesn't such firewood turn into fire? Because it has the self-nature of heat. However, if it is thought that when fire suppresses, what is suppressed is not hot, that is, it is not hot, then the firewood, which has three elements and has become another thing from fire, is contrary to fire, so it cannot be said that it has fire. Therefore, if only the warmth without elements becomes fire, then these elements do not exist independently of each other, because "they arise together and are mutually causal," which contradicts this statement. Furthermore, if fire has no firewood, it will become causeless, which is unreasonable. If it is said that the particles of fire's substance do not have three elements, so there is fire without wood, then there will be fire without wood, and therefore, the fault of causelessness mentioned earlier will occur. Even without a cause, one would admit eternal particles, like the Vaisheshikas. If, fearing the fault of causelessness, one thinks that the particles of fire have firewood of the nature of three elements, then one should not admit that the particles of fire have a single substance nature. Third, refuting the establishment of one and many: Not only are particles not established as a single self-nature, but also, no matter what external and internal things are, when fully examined with reason, that thing has no singularity. Just as the four great elements do not exist independently of each other, it will become the fault of causelessness, so without elements, what is produced will also be absent. Similarly, mind and mental factors, as well as characteristics and bases, do not exist independently of each other. By what reason is there not even one in things?

Therefore, plurality itself does not exist, because plurality depends on the accumulation of one. If someone says that this refutation is only valid for those who admit that their own sects arise, will arise, etc., simultaneously, but not for outsiders, because they believe that wherever, in things other than earth and other atoms, it does not exist, and there is one permanent earth substance there. If so, then in their system, earth atoms also have three things called substantiality, oneness, and existence, and in गुण (Tibetan: ཡོན་ཏན།, Sanskrit Devanagari: गुण, Sanskrit Roman transliteration: guṇa, Chinese literal meaning: गुण) there are also three things called गुण (Tibetan: ཡོན་ཏན།, Sanskrit Devanagari: गुण, Sanskrit Roman transliteration: guṇa, Chinese literal meaning: गुण)-ness, oneness, and existence. Therefore, in any system where all things, such as atoms, have these three qualities, there is no such thing as oneness. Similarly, in the Samkhya school, everything is the nature of the three गुण (Tibetan: ཡོན་ཏན།, Sanskrit Devanagari: गुण, Sanskrit Roman transliteration: guṇa, Chinese literal meaning: गुण)s, so there is no single thing. Fourth, comparing the reasoning of negating the four extremes: the way to refute those who say that the result exists, those who say that the result does not exist, those who say that the result both exists and does not exist, and those who say that the result is neither existence nor non-existence. "How does the one who believes in the existence of the result think?" etc., these things that have been said before, the wise should always use them to refute those who say that cause and effect are one, and those who say that they are different, those who say that they are both one and different, and those who say that they are neither one nor different. Thus, saying that cause and effect are one is the side that says that the result exists, and for this, one should use: "How does the one who believes in the existence of the result think, for the sake of the house, pillars, etc., the meaning of decoration will also cease to exist." and "Whatever produces, should not be called pre-existing. If the existing arises, then the already born will also arise." etc. Believing that cause and effect are different is the side that says that the result does not exist, and for this, one should use: "How does the one who believes in the non-existence of the result think, for the sake of the house, pillars, etc., the meaning of decoration will also cease to exist." Some people think that Indra previously existed as the nature of life, so now when taking the body, because he previously existed as the nature of life, and the nature of Devadatta is not born, so cause and effect are one, and also different, for those who believe that the result both exists and does not exist,
