For seeing objects, cognition is meaningless, because seeing exists before cognition. However, if it is thought that the three, seeing and cognition, occur simultaneously, then the arising of eye consciousness, the act of seeing, becomes meaningless, because they occur simultaneously, like the left and right horns of a cow. When such discernment is impossible, the existence of the eyes, etc., is also considered impossible. If the eye is not the essence of action, then what is it? It is the essence of the agent of seeing. Therefore, it is unreasonable to say that the third (action) becomes meaningless. If the eye sees an object, does the eye go to the place of the object, or does it see without going? If the eye touches the object and grasps it, and is associated with going to the place of the object, then the moon and stars, etc., which are located far away, should be seen after a long time, not in an instant. Because things located far away are seen in an instant, just like seeing things located nearby, this is unreasonable. If the eye touches and grasps, then why can't the eye medicine and eyelid brush, etc., which are very close to the eye, and the very distant objects, be clearly grasped? Because the contact is the same. This is also not possible, therefore it is unreasonable. Furthermore, if the eye sees objects from the outside, does it go after seeing the object, or does it go without seeing it? If it is thought that the eye goes to that place after seeing the object, then for the sake of seeing the object, the eye going to the place of the object is meaningless, because before it arrives, it has already seen it simply because the object exists here. If it does not go after seeing the object, then "the object that one wants to see will surely be seen" becomes false, like a blind person, because he does not see the object he wants to see. If one wants to avoid that fault and wants the eye to grasp without going to the place of the object, then the eye that is only located here will be able to see all things, near and far, obscured and unobscured. Because for the eye, there is no situation of going to the place of the object, and it grasps without touching, then for it, objects are neither near nor far, nor obscured, because all things are the same without touching. Then, the eye, mind, and ear are

What does the scripture mean by saying "not combined"? This is to prevent combination, not to establish non-combination. Because this would be harmed by the reason stated above, and the Tathagata would not say things that contradict reason. Furthermore, when the eye has the nature of seeing, it will also see its own essence, because its nature will not disappear at any time. Just as the nature of all things in the world first appears to oneself. For example, the fragrance of champaka flowers and utpalas (Sanskrit: utpala) first focuses on its own support, and later, when it comes into contact with it, it can be seen even on sesame seeds and other things. Therefore, if the eye has the nature of seeing, then for what reason would the eye not grasp itself? The eye does not see itself, so seeing others is also not established. Some Sutra masters think that the eye alone does not have the ability to see, and that the three aggregates of eye, form, and consciousness must come together to see form. This idea is meaningless. Because the eye does not have the consciousness of grasping form, because it is the nature of inanimate objects. Consciousness also does not have the nature of seeing form, because it is not a colored object. Neither seeing nor consciousness are in form, because they are not the nature of discrimination and are the essence of non-seeing. Therefore, since the senses, objects, and consciousness are not complete in seeing form, how can they see form even if they are combined? Because the limbs of seeing form are incomplete, just like a group of blind people. When analyzed in this way, if seeing form cannot be established, then who is it that says they see form with what knowledge? Second, refuting the object of hearing. Just as it is not appropriate to see form with that knowledge, it is also not appropriate to hear sound. Because just like seeing form, hearing sound does not exist. Just like when hearing a sound, is the sound heard after it has reached the place of hearing, or has it not reached the place of hearing? If it is the former, then does the sound emit and move in the place of hearing, or does it move silently? If the sound emits and moves in the place of hearing, then for what reason would the sound not become the speaker? Therefore, because it is not the speaker, it will not become a sound like Devadatta.
