Because it is not possible to adhere to two aspects: both grasped and not grasped. If analyzed in this way, shape and color cannot be established as either itself or other. It is also unreasonable to establish something apart from itself and other. Therefore, if analyzed down to the level of atoms, since it cannot be established, the sense-sphere of form cannot be established. Since that does not exist, nothing can be manifestly established through it. If someone says: The sense-sphere of form exists, because its cause is the four great elements. If the cause of form, the four great elements, are established by their own nature, then something different from form should be observable. Since the eight substances of a single aggregate necessarily arise together, form different from the elements is not observed. Apart from seeing, the cause of form, the elements different from it, are not visible there either. However, if the existence of form is inferred from the cause of form that is not different from form, then why cannot both the cause of form, the elements, and form be perceived by the eye? This is not reasonable, because their definitions are different, and they are objects of different senses. For example, earth is seen as stable and solid, because the object of the body's support exists. Just because it is a support, it is seen as stable. It is also held by the body, because its solidity is perceptible by the body's senses. Since this is so, it should only be called "earth" by touch. These two are not without difference either, because their definitions and modes of perception are different. Therefore, it is unreasonable to think that something that is separate from itself and other, established by its own nature, exists. Therefore, the cause of form does not exist, and since the cause of form does not exist, form also does not exist. Secondly, here some say: A vase is not something to be seen, but because it is related to visibility, it becomes visible, and because it has become visible, it becomes manifest. This is also unreasonable. If visibility is something that makes the vase manifest or special by arising, then this vase does not need visibility. If these two cases are examined and analyzed, there will be no merit, because visibility and non-visibility

If one examines the object, it is unreasonable. Because, just as the nature of what is to be seen is unborn, it is unreasonable to examine the non-object, such as a pot, in various ways, because the pot that has not become the object, its existing entity does not exist, and it is unreasonable to examine whether the non-existent pot is the object. Second, refuting the possessor of the object. Here someone says: The object, such as form, etc., is manifestly existent, because there are apprehending eyes, etc. Answer: Here, the five eyes, etc., generally speaking, are born from the four great elements, which can be indicated closely, but their functions are different objects. The eye can see form, but cannot hear sound; the ear can hear sound, but cannot see form. When this is the case, the eye is made of earth, water, fire, and wind, and so is the ear. The eye can see, but other senses cannot see, in this case, how can the eyes, etc., know the object? Because this is contrary to reason. If the eyes, etc., do not exist, then how are these established as the ripening result of karma? We are here denying the self-nature of phenomena, not denying that the eyes, etc., are the ripening result of karma arising from conditions. Then, will the fault of the eye being made of the four great elements, etc., arise? It will not arise, because the ripening results of good and evil karma, etc., cannot be conceived if analyzed with reason, because the Buddha said that it is inconceivable. The sutra says: The ripening of sentient beings' karma is inconceivable, From the wind, this world changes everything, Seas and mountains and immeasurable palaces of gods, Adorned with jewels, seeds are scattered everywhere. Clouds born from the wind bring rain, And again, the clouds are destroyed by the wind, The wind makes the world's crops abundant, The wind brings happiness to all beings. etc. Thus, everything in the world should be acknowledged. If the eyes, etc., are self-existent, because their result is the seeing consciousness. If consciousness is self-established, then the eyes, etc., will exist, but this is not the case. Because, before seeing, there is no eye consciousness, because the main cause is lacking. However, if one thinks that it exists after seeing.
