How does a yogi know the future? If the future does not exist by its own nature, how can a yogi directly know it as you wish? But it is not completely non-existent, because it arises in dependence on causes and conditions. Therefore, it is not completely invisible like the child of a barren woman. Therefore, the future is interdependent, and because it will become something, knowledge arises through aspiration and the special samadhi drawn by the power of knowing. Therefore, subsequent wisdom claims to have the aspect of direct perception and makes predictions. Because it does not exist now, it does not have the aspect of direct perception, and because it appears clearly through the power of practice, it is not realized in a general way. The future is interdependent, and because it is not a non-object of mind, the knowledge gained through the aspiration of a yogi will not become confused. When the Buddhas, through the power of their past aspirations, truly proclaim the Dharma of the wisdom that knows the three times, the disciples who become vessels for hearing this Dharma, when they understand the meaning from the sound, will be able to understand the meaning as it is. At other times, they will also be able to understand the predictions made by the Tathagatas as they are. Merely considering these, it is said that the Tathagatas possess wisdom that is unattached and unobstructed to the knowable of the three times. For those who have entered the nature of Dharma, there is no seeing or speaking of any meaning. Furthermore, for anyone who claims that the future exists by its own nature, the future will not be distant, because it has its own nature like the present. But this is not what is desired, because what are the distant dharmas? They are the past and the future. What are the near dharmas? They are what is happening now, because this has been admitted. If this person, because of meeting a virtuous friend and maturing his faculties through hearing the Dharma, the dharmas of giving and discipline, etc., which are of their own nature, even if not done, have their own nature, then the effort to necessarily keep vows in order to accumulate them will become meaningless, because they exist even without them.

If, indeed, a definite vow makes some slight difference to that Dharma, that difference is newly made without having existed before, therefore it is impossible for the future existence of the fruit. Furthermore, according to whose view, admitting that "all conditioned things are impermanent," according to that view, since impermanence is not mistaken for the three times, if all things are impermanent, how can it be said that the fruit has always existed? Because impermanence and having always existed are mutually contradictory. Like this, that which has a beginning without any other thing before it, and an end without any other after it, is what the world calls impermanent. Secondly, some schools, seeing faults in saying that the future exists, therefore say that future things do not exist, according to their view, in order to prevent future afflictions and births, the effort to generate the noble path would also become unnecessary, because future afflictions and births do not exist as things. For example, for liberated Arhats, future afflictions and births are not destroyed by the power of the noble path, therefore here there is no need to strive for liberation. Not only is there liberation without effort, but if the future does not exist in that way, then saying "consciousness arises" is also unreasonable, because the consciousness that will arise itself does not exist, and thus without a basis, the act of arising will not occur. If consciousness does not arise, the clinging to the basis of desire will not arise, and thus without clinging to the basis, the desire that relies on it will become causeless, if desire is not causeless, then Arhats will also have the fault of arising desire. Or does desire arise without clinging, or does the future not exist? This is the meaning of discernment. Thirdly, the Samkhya school believes that only what exists as a fruit will arise, because it cannot produce what does not exist, and the nature of the potential of the fruit exists in the cause, and potential produces potential, therefore everything will arise from everything. The Vaibhashika school, fearing the fault of arising from what has not arisen by nature, therefore believes that it exists in all three times, and also for the aggregate,
