Because there is no future, there is no future. Similarly, there is no past in the past, so the past is impossible. Like this, has the past time passed from its own nature of the past, or has it not passed? If it has passed from the past, why would it become the past? Because it has already transcended the nature of the past. For example, just as yogurt that has passed the state of milk is no longer called milk. If the past has not passed from the past and is not empty of action, then why would that which has action become the past? If it is said that the past has not passed from the past because it abides in its own nature of the past, then if the past is established, is the past that abides in its nature established? Because that is the stage of analytical observation, it is not established. How can it abide in the nature of the past? Third, refuting the arising of the future as substantially established. Refuting that the future is not a real thing. Refuting the three points of saying that the fruit exists or does not exist. The first point is: Which of the Vaibhashikas, because the three times are substantially existent, so praising those who speak of Sarvastivada, according to their view, the future exists, then consider whether it is born or unborn? If you think that the future is born and exists, then why would it not become the present? Because it is born and exists, like the present pot. If you think that the future exists without being born, then will the future become permanent? Or will it become only permanent? Because it is unborn and exists, like the Nirvana that you desire. If the future is unborn, but it is not impermanent like the unconditioned, because by the power of causes and conditions it is led to the present state, so the future is destroyed, therefore it is not impermanent. If it becomes impermanent because there is decay of its own nature, then because the past does not have destruction and decay of its own nature, why would it not be inferred to be permanent? Therefore, it would become the fault of being permanent. Furthermore, if it is said that time is called time because impermanence itself devours, then impermanence does not exist in all three times. Like this, the past and the present do not become impermanent, because the present abides in its own nature without decaying, and because impermanence is related to non-things, it cannot become the present. The past is for things that have been destroyed.

That which has already perished does not perish again, because it is unnecessary, because there is no basis, and because it would lead to the fault of being endless. The past and the present, and the third, different from these, the future, do not possess impermanence, because impermanence is the basis for the arising of things. The future does not exist for that which has not arisen. Therefore, just as one should not make distinctions of the three times for things like space, which are separate from impermanence, so too, for those who claim that things possess inherent existence, because there is no impermanence, one should not make distinctions of time. If the future exists, it is because it will arise later when there are causes and conditions. Things that did not exist before, like the son of a barren woman, do not arise later. If any external or internal thing that arises later from causes and conditions exists inherently from the beginning, before it has arisen, then things do not depend on causes, but are established separately by their own nature. Therefore, it is a claim of the Tirthikas (non-Buddhists). If one cannot change the tenets of those who claim that things are established by their own nature without causes, then their claim is inverted, because it contradicts all aspects of what is seen and unseen. In this way, if things do not depend on causes, because there is no dependent arising, there will be the fault of things like donkey horns not becoming the path of seeing. From this, it also follows that what exists should not arise. In this way, whatever result arises from causes and conditions, it should not be said to exist before it has arisen. If what exists arises, then what has already arisen would also arise. This is also unreasonable, because it is unnecessary, and because the cause itself would continue to arise until the very end, thus leading to the fault of there being no occasion for the subsequent continuation of the result. If the future exists, it is because the knowledge gained by yogis from meditation allows them to know and predict things as they truly are. However, it has already been shown that the future does not exist before it arises. Therefore, if yogis can see future things as they truly are, why can't they directly see non-existent things, like the son of a barren woman? Because both are the same in lacking inherent existence, it is unreasonable to say that one is seen while the other is not. Then,
