Just like remembering past lives. Because the person who is nominally established based on the previous aggregates and the present self are not other, it is unreasonable to remember past lives. Furthermore, it is unreasonable for this self to remember past lives by its own nature, because it is of the nature of non-consciousness. If it is thought to be karma with consciousness, that is also unreasonable, because it would abandon its own nature. For example, if the self is indeed a knower because it possesses the qualities of consciousness such as intelligence, then the qualities of that self, which are consciousness, would also become non-consciousness because the self is associated with non-consciousness. And because of the qualities of consciousness such as intelligence without self, it would conform to remembering past lives, etc., then the person, that is, the self, would not be permanent either, because it is changing. Furthermore, when this life or self possesses the qualities of pleasure, pain, equanimity, etc., just as the qualities of pleasure, pain, equanimity, etc., are different, the self associated with them should also be seen as various and different. Otherwise, there would be no need to posit the differences of qualities such as pleasure, etc. Because it is related to pleasure, etc., it is born in accordance with them, therefore, just as pleasure, etc., are impermanent, the self cannot be permanent either. The word "also" eliminates all such as the agent, the enjoyer, and oneness. Second, refuting the self of the Samkhya school. According to the view that the person is not conscious, this fault will occur. According to our (Samkhya) view, the person is of the nature of having knowledge, so there is nothing undesirable. That is also unreasonable. For example, if the person who enjoys objects has the knowledge of his own nature and is permanent, then when he enjoys objects, the function of the eyes, etc., will be reversed and become meaningless, because his own nature is always present. For a place where fire does not arise without firewood, firewood is meaningful for fire. If fire always arises without firewood, then firewood will not be meaningful. If the person is the nature of the power existing in knowledge, and he also enjoys objects.

It is so. If it is said that the nature of the act of experiencing objects is consciousness, and that this depends on the function of the eyes and so on, then there will be no fault as mentioned above. If it is said that consciousness is the nature of action, then this will not go beyond the nature of action. In this case, just as the action that depends on the substance of a tree, the movement of being moved by the wind, will move elsewhere even before the tree is destroyed, similarly, the nature of experiencing objects, which is consciousness, will also disappear before the substance (Pudgala) is destroyed. This is unreasonable, because the nature of experiencing objects, which is consciousness, is no different from the very nature of the Pudgala itself. Therefore, just as action depends on substance, and moves before the substance is destroyed, substance does not depend on other substances, but from arising to destruction there is no movement. The consciousness of the nature of experiencing is also the nature of the substance (Pudgala), therefore there is a Pudgala before experiencing objects, but the consciousness of the act of experiencing objects does not exist. To prove this, it is unreasonable to say that the function of the eyes and so on is meaningful. If it is said that before experiencing objects, although there is no consciousness, there is its potential, so there is a Pudgala, then, just as when experiencing objects, one does not see a Pudgala different from consciousness, similarly, when not experiencing objects, there is no Pudgala different from consciousness, therefore at that time there is no potential that depends on the Pudgala. Furthermore, if one realizes that this Pudgala exists in the nature of the potential of consciousness before the nature of the manifestation of consciousness, then, do you see the boundary of consciousness earlier than the state of consciousness? And do you see consciousness itself outside the state of the boundary of consciousness? For example, just as molten iron later becomes an iron lump, the previous boundary of consciousness later becomes the nature of the manifestation of consciousness, therefore the Pudgala changes, and because it changes, it is established that there is no permanent "self." Third, refuting the "self" of the rationalists: Others say that our Pudgala is not the nature of consciousness.

It is like that. Then what is it? A tiny particle of my side possesses mind, and from that knowledge arises. Therefore, having knowledge is only in a part that possesses mind, but not in everything, because the person pervades everything and is as vast as the sky, is it so? Having knowledge is only in a part that possesses mind, and because the person is as vast as the sky, therefore I see that the nature of that self is not having knowledge itself. Because the part of a tiny particle is connected with knowledge, the person will not become possessing knowledge, just as the salt of a tiny particle is connected, one cannot say that the water of the Ganges possesses salt. Furthermore, if this self pervades all persons, because there is no difference from the self of nature, why don't you regard the self of other persons as your own self or self? If you say that the self of others is obscured and cannot be seen, if the self of others is your own self, then it is unreasonable for oneself to obscure one's own self. Therefore, I should not pervade everything. Fourth, refuting being the agent of merit: Here, the Samkhyas say that dust, darkness, and courage are the three qualities. The state in which these three are equal is the chief, and when producing transformations, it is called nature. According to their view, the nature of the three qualities, the person should enjoy the object. As it is said: From nature arises the great, from that arises pride, from that arises the sixteen combinations, and the sixteen also arise from those, only from the five arise the five great elements. As it is said, the agent who produces all the collections of transformations, because he has no mind, is not knowledgeable in any way, and there is no difference between the Samkhyas who say this and the madman, because they are driven by inverted wisdom and speak of things that do not exist. Like this, saying that there is no mind and the agent of everything is very contradictory. Furthermore, the nature qualities of dust, darkness, and courage know how to make all the collections of transformations such as houses in any case, but they say that they do not know how to enjoy and eat them, what could be more unreasonable than this?
