If all meet, they will not form a gross object. Therefore, if a certain atom has an eastern direction, then it also has an eastern part. According to which view holds that an atom has a direction, according to that view, that atom cannot be called an atom, because it has parts facing east and other directions. It is thought to be like a mansion and so on. If the atom has no parts, there will be no movement driven by unseen actions in other places. If there is no movement, there will be no meeting with other atoms, so there will be no formation of substances with limbs. Like this, if one thinks that a being with a body and obviously tending to move will take the front direction with the front and abandon the rear with the back, thus creating the movement of the mover, then for an atom without parts, there is neither taking nor abandoning, so it will not become a mover going to other places. Since there is no movement, there will be no production of results, so the existence of atoms is unreasonable. If it is said that atoms are permanent because yogis see them with divine eyes, then for an atom without parts, there is first no front part, and there is no middle between the front and back, and finally there is no back part, then it is invisible or ungraspable. Since it is invisible and there is nothing to observe, which yogi can see it? Seeing is unreasonable. If the atom is the cause, then just as the sprouting of a sprout causes the destruction of the seed, the production of a substance with limbs as a result will cause the destruction of the cause atom, so the cause atom will not be permanent. If it is thought that the nature of the cause will not be destroyed, and it will also produce a result that has become another thing, then in the place where the cause atom exists, the result, the substance with limbs, will not exist, because two obstructive things cannot exist in the same place. Therefore, just as a pot and a blanket in different places, it will not become a cause and effect either. From this, it is also evident that atoms are not permanent, because atoms cannot fully enter other atoms with their own essence, so atoms are obstructive. Obstructive objects are permanent, and they do not appear anywhere.

It is not, like a vase and so on. Because atoms are not permanent, Buddhas never say that atoms are permanent, because they themselves have not seen it that way. The extremely subtle particles of the eight substances, which are imputed in dependence on the eight substances, are not permanent, and like a vase, they exist by imputation. Moreover, it only exists in the aggregate, and there is no unparalleled independent entity, so it cannot be expressed separately by the term "extremely subtle particle." Fifth, refuting the permanence of liberation in one's own school. And refuting the liberation of the self-nature of other schools. First: Here, the Vaibhashika school and others of our own school say: Although atoms are not permanent, what is said to be permanent does exist. As it is said in the sutras: "Monks, the uncreated, unoriginated, and uncompounded is existent." And it is said that uncompounded dharmas are permanent. Therefore, nirvana is permanent and should be attained through the path truth, and there is something that obstructs both afflictions and birth like a dam blocking water. If it did not exist, it would not be said that the end of suffering and origin is the third noble truth, because it has been said, so it exists. Bondage is the truth of origin, because it makes the bound one have no autonomy. Bondage is the truth of suffering, because it has become a slave to afflictions. The means of reversing those is the truth of the path, because it pacifies all afflictions. These three truths are inferred to exist from all afflictions and their reversal. Other than those, there is no liberation characterized by the exhaustion of afflictions. If it existed, one would reasonably see some fruit, but if no beneficial action arises from that towards the nature of bondage and liberation, then from what does one infer its existence? Because no action arises from this, nirvana is not said to be a liberation with the characteristic of acting to prevent future afflictions and birth. Afflictions and birth do not arise because the cause is incomplete, so it is meaningless to posit another liberation for that purpose. Saying the words of the three truths
