The ground does not exist. Therefore, a yogi, by meditating on desirable objects as emptiness, is able to abandon desire. Not only is the object of desire unestablished and therefore without inherent existence, but also, because the cause is unestablished, it is not truly established. For example: Desire, hatred, and delusion, are said to arise from conceptualization. Because of this, if there is no improper conceptualization of pleasantness, etc., towards objects, then the very existence of all afflictions such as desire does not exist, because they arise from the imputation of pleasant, unpleasant, and neutral. If these were established in the true sense, who with intelligence would hold that their existence depends on conceptualization? Therefore, these are not truly established, because they depend on the imputation of conceptualization. For example, like imputing a snake onto a coil of rope. If desire, etc., were inherently existent, it would be because they bind children. For example, a man is also bound together with a woman by desire that has a woman as its object, and a woman is also bound together with a man by desire that has a man as its object. If you say this, then there is no such thing as a man being bound together with a woman, because just as desire does not inherently exist because it depends on conceptualization, so too, men and women do not inherently exist. If you think that they are bound together, then it is not reasonable to later separate from what is inherently bound together, because inherent existence does not change. Since there is later liberation from the bondage of desire, desire is not the cause of inherent bondage. Therefore, desire, etc., are inherently empty, and it is known that one can abandon them by seeing their inherent emptiness. Secondly, the way in which children do not abandon these is divided into the main point and, incidentally, not attaining nirvana due to wrong views. The first point is: If one could abandon afflictions by analyzing them in detail, why does it seem that most people have not abandoned afflictions? It is because they lack great faith in the profound Dharma, which is the cause of abandonment. For example, great
