As it is said, you waste your time in vain because of the cause of desire, recall the previous end of the body, today with the asceticism and vows of seeking complete enlightenment, cut off desire with this asceticism. So it is said. So, is samsara finite? Or is it infinite? If it is the former, then liberation will occur without effort; if it is the latter, then effort will not lead to liberation. If both are the case, then because samsara has been cut off, effort is meaningless. If you say so, then this cannot be determined as absolute, if the cause of wisdom is complete, then there is an end; if it is not complete, then there is no end. The cause and condition are also not absolutely non-occurring, nor are they necessarily occurring. For example, the cause of the arising of wisdom, the listener abiding in leisure, the Dharma to be heard is the speech that proclaims suchness, the speaker is the Tathagata, these appearances are very rare. Because the Tathagata appears in the world, it is as rare as the Udumbara flower. The other two also depend on the appearance of the Buddha. Therefore, if the cause of the arising of wisdom, these three jewels gather, samsara will cease, so it is not infinite; if they do not gather, it will not cease, so it is not finite either. Therefore, the Buddha does not acknowledge samsara as finite or infinite among the fourteen unpredicted things, in short, the reason lies in this. In the Root Verses on the Middle Way, it is said: "All things are emptiness, what is finite and what is infinite?" As it is said, other causes, emptiness by nature, are also not non-existent. Therefore, for the complete cause and condition of the cessation of samsara, the wise should diligently strive for the means of exhausting existence. If it is said that as long as the scriptures exist, there will be virtuous friends and their transmission, therefore, in the next life, effort is made to exhaust existence, then, when the scriptures exist, both exist, but it is difficult for oneself to become a listener. For example, most people are blinded by ignorance and controlled by non-virtuous, non-holy friends, completely accepting their views and engaging in non-virtuous actions such as killing, therefore, ordinary people mostly inevitably fall into evil destinies, because of non-virtuous actions.

It is said in the scriptures that being in the happy realms is also not a place to settle, and there is no opportunity. Secondly, if one says that the lower realms are not places of joy, but the happy realms are free from harm, so they are places of joy. Therefore, one should not be weary of them. Then, one should be as weary of the happy realms as one is of the lower realms. For example, those who commit evil deeds in the world, after dying, experience the results of their actions in hell and other places. Afterwards, they are reborn as humans due to the merit they have accumulated in other lifetimes, but they are still tormented by the remnants of the results of their previous sins, such as incomplete limbs, incomplete senses, ugly appearance, poverty, and so on. One can only see decline. Therefore, in the eyes of those holy beings who have realized the true nature of reality, the world of sentient beings is like a burning ground or a cemetery where animals are slaughtered. Therefore, while dwelling in the midst of the intensely burning suffering and decline, not striving to destroy it is truly the height of ignorance. If the holy beings see the world of sentient beings as a burning ground, then why are worldly people not weary of it? Because worldly people are like mad elephants drunk on alcohol, their nature is to be crazy. Why are all worldly people crazy? Because they have acquired the characteristics of madness. For example, if it is said that because the world is unbalanced, the true functioning of consciousness cannot abide, so it is called madness. Then, ordinary people who dwell in samsara also desire many actions that are even more unreasonable than madness, and they speak nonsense. The nature of the mind is to be constantly moving, and it cannot remain still even for a moment. Who among the wise would say that such a person is not mad? Therefore, because it is like a burning ground and is a place of madness, the wise should completely abandon samsara. Secondly, there are three aspects: advising to abandon karma, the reasons for abandoning it, and the actual way to abandon it. First, one should also abandon samsara by stopping all the workings of karma. So, how does one abandon samsara by stopping karma? The suffering caused by actions such as walking should be reversed from those actions, and the previous momentum should be stopped by means of abiding and so on.
