Also in the commentary on the Wooden-Named Bodhicitta, it says: "'Unborn' and 'empty,' and the emptiness of 'no-self,' whoever speaks of them as inferior, here, they are cultivating self." Therefore, it is said. Those who say that other-emptiness, which is empty of conventional truth, is established as ultimate truth, are like patients abandoned by doctors, afflicted by the endless plague of clinging to emptiness as something real. The unsurpassed, perfectly complete Buddhas who remove all the suffering of the world say that those are holders of views that cannot be permanently cured by the nectar of the sacred Dharma. The Tathagata and the noble Nagarjuna have said so. In the Ornament of the Array of Precious Kings Sutra, it says: "The view of self, even as large as Mount Meru, does not harm, but the view of emptiness harms, due to pride and untrue imputation. Yogic practice, emptiness itself, should not be applied to a non-place. If it is applied to a non-place, nectar will be drunk as poison. Whatever views there may be, possessed by embodied beings, for the sake of abandoning those views, the nature of emptiness has been taught. But even hearing the view of emptiness, if the view of some others is not destroyed, they are holders of incurable views, like patients abandoned by doctors." And in the Sutra Requested by Kashyapa, it also says: "Kashyapa, the view of self as large as Mount Meru is easy, but the view of emptiness with manifest pride is not so." Thus it is said, and the meaning of those is also explained in the Root Verses on the Middle Way. The emptiness of all the Buddhas is said to dispel all evil views. Those who view emptiness are said to be incurable. Whatever nature is apprehended by the minds of children is what is called conventional truth. So, what is that like? The nature apprehended by the minds of children is of two kinds: one is apprehended by the minds of children who have trained their minds in their respective tenets, and the other is apprehended by the minds of ordinary children who follow worldly customs, follow how the elders establish terms, and take pleasure in just that. The first is divided into outsiders and insiders. Among them, the self and so on that is apprehended and fabricated by the minds of the outsiders...

I believe that subjects like 'I' and other uncommon tenets of their respective schools are not established even in conventional truth. As stated in the *Madhyamakavatara*: 'Like a barren woman's child, because there is no birth, there is no self. This is not an object of the ego-grasping, so it is not even conventionally existent.' This is what is said. The uncommon tenets of their respective schools, such as the partless atoms posited by the Vaibhashikas, Sautrantikas, and Cittamatrins of our own schools, the consciousness with aspects produced by them, and the self-aware consciousness devoid of the apprehended and the apprehender, are said by some Svatantrika Madhyamikas to exist conventionally. But here, I do not believe that they exist even conventionally. As stated in the *Madhyamakavatara*: 'Those who cling to substance due to the power of others destroy all the conventions of worldly fame.' Furthermore, in its own commentary, it is said: 'Some say that whatever the Sautrantikas assert as ultimate truth is considered conventional by the Madhyamikas.' Whoever says that only speaks because they do not understand the ultimate reality of the Madhyamika treatises. This should be understood. Furthermore, those who think that whatever the Vaibhashikas assert as ultimate truth is conventional for the Madhyamikas also do not fully understand the ultimate reality of the treatises. This is because supramundane dharmas cannot be equal to mundane dharmas. This is why it is said. Therefore, the various things that ordinary children name according to the customs of the elders, such as places, senses, men, women, mountains, houses, gardens, etc., without analysis, according to their own ideas, are objects to which the term 'conventional truth' can be applied. Therefore, those who assert the reality of things have fallen away from both truths, because they have transcended worldly conventions and do not understand the profound ultimate reality. Those who have fallen away from conventional and ultimate truth cannot realize the truth of the Tathagata's teachings, because the Tathagatas are skilled in both truths.
