The Moonlight of the Essential Points of the Two Truths. The Moonlight of the Essential Points of the Two Truths. The Moonlight of the Essential Points of the Two Truths is present. The Buddha who has perfected the two benefits, and the sacred Dharma that is free from attachment to what and from what, the assembly of noble ones who know how and how much, I prostrate to the infallible Three Jewels. May the light of wisdom destroy the darkness of extreme views, may the myriad rays of compassion descend upon the continent of those to be tamed, may the lord of the ornament of Jambudvipa, prophesied by the Thuba, the holy speaker Nagarjuna, be victorious. As it is said in the sutras: The knower of the world, without hearing from others, teaches these two truths. That which is conventional is thus the ultimate truth, and a third truth never exists. Thus it is said, and the venerable Nagarjuna also said: The Dharma taught by the Buddhas relies truly on two truths: the truth of worldly convention and the truth of ultimate meaning. Thus, the subject matter of the Dharma wheels turned by the Thus-Gone One for the three types of beings, superior, intermediate, and inferior, does not exist apart from the two truths, conventional and ultimate. If the first teaching was based on the four truths and the last was based on the three natures, how can it be certain that the subject matter of the teachings is the two truths? It is true that it is said thus, but there is no fault, because among the four truths, the truths of suffering, origin, and path are conventional truths, and the truth of cessation is the ultimate truth, and also among the three natures, the imputed and the dependent are the first truth, and the thoroughly established is the ultimate truth. If it is said that the non-erroneous thoroughly established should not be the ultimate truth, this is what those who speak of mind-only accept as the thoroughly established, but those who speak of no self-nature do not accept it thus. Therefore, these two truths are the main subject matter of all the scriptures, and therefore, the wise should analyze the nature of these two. Among them, the conventional truth is the means to realize the ultimate truth, because without relying on the truth of terminology, one cannot lead anyone to the true meaning.

It is said in the root (text): Without relying on conventions, one cannot realize the ultimate truth. Therefore, the Bhagavan initially relied on the conventional truth to teach sentient beings about the arrangement of the external world, such as Mount Meru, the ocean, and the four continents, as well as the arrangement of the internal world of beings, such as the aggregates, elements, and sense bases. This is an excellent method for sentient beings to develop faith in the Tathagata as the all-knowing one. Because all internal and external arrangements are consistent with the world's own appearances, they will understand that (the Buddha) possesses the all-knowing, all-seeing eye that has no obscurations regarding all objects of knowledge. Having thus developed faith in the all-knowing, they will respectfully enter the Dharma that he has taught without contradiction, and from entering the Dharma, they will attain enlightenment that is appropriate to their own capacity. Therefore, the conventional truth is merely a means taught by the Tathagata for sentient beings to realize suchness, and it is not the main subject of the scriptures, but a secondary one. The ultimate truth, however, is the main subject, because by realizing it, sentient beings will attain liberation and the state of omniscience. Furthermore, it is only the Tathagata who clearly reveals the meaning of suchness, and therefore the Tathagata is the most excellent of speakers, surpassing other teachers such as Ishvara and Vishnu, because they possess the haze of ignorance and lack the ability to speak of the suchness of things. Thus, in the Root Verses on the Middle Way, it is said: 'Whatever arises dependently, is without cessation, without origination, without annihilation, without permanence, without coming, without going, without distinction, without identity, and is free from conceptual constructs. To the Buddha, the king of Dharma, who teaches the pacification of all elaborations, I prostrate.' The Tathagata is praised as the supreme speaker for clearly revealing the profound suchness of dependent origination. The scriptures of the Tathagata also teach by clearly revealing the suchness of the ultimate truth.
