Also, to prevent what should not be done, it is summarized into one branch. Since it is incompatible with the conduct of renunciation, if one violates it, one must confess two faults. Since it is not one, it is made heavier and established as two branches. Third, abandoning inverted thoughts: Householders are attached to evil deeds, and many mental faults such as stinginess arise. These are also the cause of falling into evil destinies. In order to turn away from these, it is said: "Stinginess, deceit, trickery, attachment, and laziness, as well as pride, desire, hatred, lineage, appearance, learning, youth, and great power, the Victorious One sees as enemies." This means that one is always attached to one's own possessions, stinginess that is contrary to giving; and deceit that holds the means of covering up one's own faults; trickery that always shows untrue qualities for the purpose of deceiving others; attachment that craves body and enjoyment; laziness that is not interested in doing good; pride that is conceited, thinking that one has attained special qualities that one has not attained; desire that craves sexual intercourse; and hatred that always harbors harmful thoughts towards sentient beings, these eight dharmas, and arrogance that is conceited due to attachment to the five dharmas such as lineage. These thirteen non-virtuous dharmas take away the life of virtue, so they should be regarded as enemies, and one should not associate with them even for a moment. Pride is being conceited by comparing one's qualities such as lineage with others, while arrogance is being conceited with one's own lineage etc. without relying on others. In the Abhidharmakosha, it is said: "Pride, arrogance, and conceit are when the mind is completely attached due to attachment to one's own dharma." Fourth, one should be mindful: The root of all virtuous dharmas is mindfulness. For householders, there are also things that should be done with mindfulness. Therefore, in order to establish them in this, it is said: "Mindfulness is the place of nectar, and lack of mindfulness is the place of death, so the Thuba taught. Therefore, in order to increase your virtuous dharma, please always be mindful with respect." This means that mindfulness, which has the characteristic of cultivating virtuous dharmas and guarding the mind from contaminated dharmas, is the nectar of attaining the state of immortality, Nirvana.

is the place. As it is said, the opposite of this, negligence, is the place where one is born in samsara and experiences the suffering of death. Thus spoke the Buddha Shakyamuni. As it is said: Vigilance is the place of nectar, negligence is the place of death, the vigilant do not die, the negligent always die. Because it is said so. Because it is so, therefore, in order to generate the good Dharma that has not yet arisen, and to increase the good Dharma that has already arisen, you should always cultivate the good Dharma with vigilance. This is (the meaning above). If you want to do something for me, why didn't you say this advice to encourage virtue from the beginning? If you think that I have already been negligent in the past, what should I do now? (Answer:) Whoever has been negligent before, but later becomes vigilant, is also as beautiful as the moon without clouds, like the joyful one, Angulimala, the one with sight, the one who makes happiness. As it is said, whoever has been suppressed by afflictions in the past, or under the influence of bad friends, accidentally engaged in non-virtue and has become negligent, but later meets a virtuous friend and becomes vigilant by taking care to take and abandon, is also very beautiful like the moon without cloud cover. Have you seen such beings? Answer: Yes, I have seen them. For example, the one named Joyful, is the younger brother of the Blessed One, a young Shakya with desire, who could not bear to be separated from his wife even for a moment. The Tathagata ordained him, and even then, he thought of his wife day and night, and did not do good deeds. The Blessed One directly showed the fear of hell, causing him to be afraid, and made him practice the path, so he attained the state of Arhat, and was prophesied to be the supreme of those who closed the doors of the senses among the Shravakas. Angulimala was the son of a Brahmin, he was foolish, and his Khenpo deceived him by saying that if he killed a thousand people and made a garland of fingers, it would become Dharma. He was deceived by the non-Dharmic teaching, and killed nine hundred and ninety-nine people, one short of a thousand. The Tathagata ordained him, and he attained the state of Arhat. The one with sight is...
