Generally, advising to do good. Generally, advising to do good. Secondly, generally, advising to abide in the path of virtuous actions. Therefore, the six recollections are the mind and the interval, and are the cause of great merit, so they are first taught. Therefore, in order to show that one should strive for virtue with a mind of faith. The ten paths of virtuous action, body, speech, and mind, should be constantly practiced. It is said that because it produces many pleasing fruits, it is virtue. Because it is the nature of action, it is karma. Because it is the path to go to the happy realms, it is the path. There are also ten types, from abandoning killing to right view. Among them, abandoning killing and so on are the three of the body, abandoning lying and so on are the four of speech, and non-covetousness and so on are the three of the mind, in order. Body, speech, and mind should be constantly practiced. It is said. Among them, these ten paths of virtuous action are also to be practiced by abandoning the ten paths of non-virtuous action such as killing. So, how are their characteristics established? The mind of affliction, with its thought on that basis, that action is fully practiced and completed, is the essence of the respective characteristics of the paths of action such as killing, briefly summarized. Among them, the mind of affliction is overwhelmed by the three poisons such as desire. If, although there is a mind of affliction, it is not fully practiced with the thought of recognizing it there on that basis, even if it has been completed, it will not become a complete path of action, because the branches of thought and action are not complete. If, although there is a mind of affliction and its thought, it is fully practiced on other things with a reversed mind, even if it has reached the ultimate, it is not a complete path of action, because the thought and action are confused. If, although there is a mind of affliction and its thought, the action is not fully practiced and has not reached the ultimate, it is not a complete path of action, because there is only intention, and the branches of action and the main part are not complete.

That is why. If there is a mind with afflictions and its intention, and one constantly engages in it, but if it is not ultimately completed, then the path of karma will not be complete, because the actual basis is incomplete. If there is a mind with afflictions, and there is also its intention, and one constantly engages in that action on that basis and it is ultimately completed, then that very path of non-virtuous action is completely fulfilled. The characteristics of these ten paths of action should be understood as being distinguished by five aspects: namely, the basis, the intention, the action, the affliction, and the completion. Among these, the basis is the object upon which the action of killing, etc., is applied, that is, sentient beings and non-sentient objects, upon which the categories of the ten non-virtuous paths of action arise. Intention is twofold: the intention of perception and the intention to act. Perception is also of four kinds: perceiving that as that on that basis, perceiving that as that on what is not that, perceiving that as not that on that, and perceiving that as not that on what is not that. The limb of the path of action is the first, because the other three do not complete the path of action. The intention to act is the intention to constantly engage in that action on that basis. Action is any activity of body, speech, or mind, whether of oneself or another, for the sake of doing that action. Affliction is any of the three poisons, such as desire. Completion is the very action that is desired, which, through the action associated with it, is completely accomplished at that time or after that time. Thus, through these five aspects, one should understand that the characteristics of the ten non-virtuous paths of action are distinguished. Among these, the basis of killing is a sentient being with life. If the one who is killing also has the perception of a living being towards that living being, and also has that perception towards the living being that he intends to kill, then that is called an undistorted perception of it. Relying on that perception, thinking, "This should be killed," that is his intention to kill. That is desire, etc.
