Because there is no interruption, it is called Avīci (无间). From that place, suffering is experienced for a long time, and that sentient being is called Avīci. Its vicinity is: in the four directions of the great hell of sentient beings, there are four doors, and outside the doors, there are four remaining sufferings, like this, the first is that outside the door there is a pit of fire about knee-deep, and when lifting and placing the feet there, flesh and skin etc. arise and perish. Next to that is a mud of rotting corpses and excrement, with a very foul smell, and when one falls into it, one falls there, and the head and feet etc. are submerged, and the sharp-beaked insects in it will pierce the flesh etc. Next to that is a road filled with razors, and when walking there, the flesh arises and perishes with the lifting and placing of the feet. Next to that is a forest of sword-leaved trees, and when sitting there for shade, swords fall from the trees, cutting off limbs etc., and when falling to the ground, dogs and foxes etc. will pick up the remaining flesh and eat it. Next to that is a grove of iron trees with thorns, and when one goes there, one is forced to climb up and down, and when climbing up, the thorns face upwards, and when climbing down, the thorns face downwards, piercing the body and becoming wings. The iron-beaked crows there will peck out the eyes and eat them. Next to that is a river called Niravadhi (无极河), which is filled with boiling ash water, and when one falls into it, there are people holding sticks on both sides guarding it, not allowing one to come out, and if one comes out, one will be thrown face up on the burning iron ground, and the mouth will be pried open with iron tongs, and burning iron liquid or copper liquid will be poured in, and from that place, suffering will be experienced for a long time. Among them, the four kinds of being filled with razors etc., because they are like weapons, are counted as one remaining. Those become sixteen kinds because of the difference of the four directions, just as it is said in the Abhidharmakośa: "The eight all have sixteen remaining, fire pit, rotten mud, razor road, rivers etc." Just as it is said. Those sentient beings born in the cold hells experience the suffering of cold.

Experiencing such suffering, those born in the Blister Hell are struck by the strong winds present there, causing their entire bodies to shrink as if covered in blisters. Those in the Bursting Blister Hell shrink as if their blisters are bursting. The names Sothamthampa, Kyihur, and Achu are derived from the sounds uttered due to the distress of cold, and these sounds are used to name those beings. The hell where beings crack like উৎপལ་ flowers is where the strong winds present there strike, causing the skin to turn blue and crack into five or six fissures. The hell where beings crack like lotuses is where the skin turns red after being blue, and cracks into ten or more fissures. The hell where beings crack like great lotuses is where the skin turns extremely red and cracks into a hundred or more fissures. Short-lived beings, these hell beings experience such suffering. For example, the butcher of King's Abode, upon death, cries out with a sound like a collapsing house, echoing through the sky; and the butcher's student is born on a mountain of bones, emitting a foul odor, and is pecked at by crows and the like. Furthermore, they experience suffering as described in the biography of the noble Gendun Drungs. For example, the venerable one, having lost his way near the shores of Drozhin Kyetse Lake, wandered in a desolate plain and gradually proceeded, seeing a being who, at night, in an immeasurable palace, experienced the bliss of possessing excellent divine enjoyments, but at dawn, the palace disappeared, and his body fell to the ground, being devoured by terrifying beasts, experiencing great suffering. When the sun set, he again saw him enjoying divine glory and asked him. 'During the day, I kill other beings, and at night, I possess the qualities of discipline. This is the experience of the good result of that action and also of sin.' And then, gradually proceeding, during the day he experienced divine glory, and at night a great Rakshasa woman tightly entwined him and gradually devoured him from the head down, causing him to experience inexhaustible suffering. Again, during the day, he saw the same transformation as before, and asked him as before. 'At night, I am addicted to stealing, and during the day, I possess the qualities of discipline. This is the experience of the good result of that action and also of sin.' As it is said in the scriptures.
