There are three ways to make good use of the land. Having completely dedicated it for the sake of attaining Buddhahood, then rejoicing and dedicating this accumulation of merit, may you, the protector of the world, remain until samsara is not empty, and have immeasurable life. What to do? To fully ripen the Buddha's Dharma and to fully ripen sentient beings. First, with this accumulation of merit, during the stage of practicing the path, in immeasurable rebirths, being born in the realms of gods and humans, freely mastering the yoga of immeasurable qualities such as dharanis and samadhis. Second, to ripen sentient beings, just as the noble Avalokiteśvara protects those miserable beings from the fears of lions and elephants, etc., with conduct similar to that, rescuing many miserable beings, perfecting the accumulations, and being born in the last existence, eliminating the truth of suffering, which includes aging, and all that is included in the truth of origination, such as attachment and aversion. Where to eliminate? In the Buddha-field that has been completely purified by one's own roots of virtue. Like what? Just as in Sukhavati, the land, retinue, and life, etc., are like the Bhagavan Amitabha Buddha attaining Buddhahood. The second is the result, having thus attained Buddhahood, benefiting sentient beings according to their needs, may you attain Nirvana. To illustrate this, (verse): Wisdom, discipline, generosity, arising, great fame, without stain, increasing and expanding the heavenly realm, the sky, and the earth. On earth are humans, and in the high realms are gods, all excellent youths, bringing ease, joy, and delight, and completely pacifying. May you attain the power of the Victorious One, pacifying the fear and death of afflicted and miserable sentient beings. Transcending the world, only the name is peaceful and unshakeable. May you attain the state of being without old age, without fault, and without disease. Having thus attained the power of the Victorious One, when all the contaminated aggregates have ceased, transcending the world, because there is no entity, it is only a name, because there is no harm, it is peaceful, because there is no fear, it is unshakeable, because there is no

O, Elder! May you attain the state of immortality, faultlessness, deathlessness, and nirvana. What kind of special Lord of Conquerors have you attained? You have made those who dwell on earth and the gods of the six desire realms of the higher realms, who are delighted in the pleasures of desire such as the happiness of serving the best of young goddesses, weary of them. You have placed them on the practice of the noble path, such as moral discipline, and on the actual noble path, and made them peaceful. You have pacified the fears of the assembly of sentient beings tormented by afflictions and exhausted by suffering, mainly the fears caused by omens of death, and the birth, karma, and exhaustion of life caused by ignorance, karma, and existence, and the painful death caused by not abandoning misery. You have attained such a Lord of Conquerors. What have you done? You have the wisdom that definitely distinguishes the nature of reality, the moral discipline that possesses qualities such as non-degradation, and the perfect generosity that is without attachment to all. Such fame has spread widely in the heavenly realms, the sky, the intermediate space, and the human world on earth. This well-spoken lotus, which is guarded by the Nagas and arises from the ocean of scriptures, is the source of auspicious virtues and honey. May the fortunate flocks of flying bees rejoice, with the rays of the sun of intelligence fully opening it. As long as the good words spoken by the Sage and the holy ones exist in this world, this world will have a good protector, as beautiful as the sun shining in the immaculate sky. The flower-arrow that destroys auspiciousness spreads in all directions, and the teachings of the Sage are like the life of beings born in secret. The assembly of beings has also become peaceful and has fallen away from the path of Dharma. May those who desire virtue rely on the path of virtue with one mind. Whatever virtue I have strived for here, which is extremely difficult, is as white as the dust of white lotuses and lotuses. May whatever merit is obtained from this enable beings to completely cross over this river of views and reach the island of liberation. This is the commentary on the "Letter to a Friend" by the great master Arya Nagarjuna, called "Meaningful Illumination."
