Therefore, in order to completely eradicate the roots of non-virtue such as wrong views. Moreover, since a person who does not possess the correct view of understanding the ultimate truth, clings to things and harbors wrong views, even if they practice generosity and other virtuous deeds, they will cause the fruition of all actions to ripen in samsara, hence the addition of "inexhaustible." Second, the extensive explanation, of which the first of the five is cultivating the four mindfulnesses: "If one truly observes beings, they are without happiness, impermanent, selfless, and impure; one should know them as such. Those who do not abide in mindfulness, see the four inversions as the cause of ruin." Thus it is said, if one truly observes beings, that is, observes with wisdom, then because they possess the three natures of suffering, they are without happiness; because they do not remain in the second moment, they are impermanent; because there is no self who has power, they are selfless; because their nature is an aggregation of bones, flesh, and blood, they should be known as impure. Thus, those who do not abide in mindfulness, that is, those who do not investigate with wisdom, see the impure body as pure, see suffering as happiness, see the impermanent mind as permanent, and see the selfless dharma as self; these four inverted views are the cause of samsara and the lower realms, hence they are the cause of ruin. Therefore, one should abide in mindfulness. Second, especially, cultivating the dharma mindfulness: If one thinks: Even if they are suffering and so on, how are they selfless? If there is no self, then who will experience the fruits of virtuous and non-virtuous actions? "Form is not self" thus it is said, that is, the self is not united with form, the self does not dwell in form, form does not dwell in the self; likewise, the remaining four aggregates should also be understood as emptiness. Thus it is said, if there is a self, does it exist in the nature of the aggregates such as form? Or does it exist as something other than that? It is not the former, because the sutra says from "Form is not self" up to "consciousness is not self." This is temporarily scriptural proof. If one asks: What logical proof is there for this? The self is not the nature of form and so on, because like form and so on, the self will also become impermanent, and it will become many. And because form and so on are accepted as substantially existent, the self will become substantially existent, and the view of self will be substantially existent.

Because it is an object, it necessarily follows that, in order to avoid reversal, the antidote cannot abandon the seed. As it is said in the *Entering the Middle Way*: "If the aggregates were the self, then because of their multiplicity, the self would also become many. The self would become a substance, and thus, because it engages with substance, it would not turn into reversal." If it is something other than form, etc., is it like a god-given one possessing a cow, possessing form, etc., or is it like a god-given one sitting on a chair, dwelling in form, etc., or is it like vines, etc., relying on the ground, with form, etc., relying on it? The first is not reasonable, because it is said from "I am not possessed of form" to "I am not possessed of consciousness." This is scriptural proof. The reasoning is: just as a god-given one can control a cow, I cannot control form, etc., because even if I do not want it, form, etc., will become other, and destruction, etc., are seen. The second is also not reasonable, because it is said from "The self does not dwell in form" to "The self does not dwell in consciousness." That is scripture. The reasoning is: just as a god-given one dwells on a chair, I do not dwell in form, etc., in a way that relies on them, because the object of reliance, form, etc., is impermanent, so I will also become impermanent. The third is also not reasonable, because it is said from "Form does not dwell in me" to "Form does not dwell in consciousness." That is scripture. The reasoning is: just as vines, etc., rely on the ground, the aggregates of form, etc., do not rely on me, because if the form, etc., that rely on the permanent self never perish, and if their arising and ceasing depend on me, that is also unreasonable, because the arising and ceasing of form in external objects without a self are also seen. Just as with the analysis of form, the remaining four aggregates, such as feeling, etc., should also be understood by those scriptures and reasonings previously explained, regarding the emptiness of a self that is different in nature and meaning. Contrary to what has been said, holding form as the self, etc., each of the five aggregates also has four aspects.
