Even without a little property, it is true wealth, because the need for wealth is contentment. Having thus spoken of the merits of contentment, in order to show the faults of discontentment, (the text says:) "Those with wealth suffer much, those with few desires do not, how many heads do the supreme nagas have, that many sufferings arise from it." Thus it is said, because it is pleasant to be with, the king is called "one with wealth." Like the many possessions such as gold, as it is said in the Bodhisattvacharyavatara: "The suffering of accumulating, guarding, and losing, is an endless collection of suffering, wealth is known to be the root of misfortune, one should know its faults in this way." As it is said, at the beginning, middle, and end, in order, the suffering of accumulating, guarding, and losing arises. Suffering like this, then those with few desires will not suffer like this. For example, the supreme nagas, the kings of nagas have seven, three, one, etc. number of heads, how many heads there are, that many sufferings arise. Or, how many heads the king of nagas has, that many jewels on the crest, how many jewels, that many sufferings of guarding the jewels also arise. Ninth, knowing the faults and merits of one's own family, the way to rely on them is: (the text says:) "A nature connected with the enemy like an executioner, despising the family like a shrew, stealing even small things like a thief, these three wives should be abandoned." Thus it is said, a nature connected with the enemy, that is, associating with other men, wanting to kill the family like an executioner, not respecting the family, treating them with contempt like a shrew, stealing even small things, let alone big things, like a thief, these three kinds of wives should be abandoned. Then, what kind of wife should one rely on? (the text says:) "Like a sister, compliant in everything, like a friend, pleasing to the heart, like a mother, hoping to benefit, like a servant, obedient, respect her like a family deity." Thus it is said, just as a sister complies with her brother, not disobeying his words, a wife who complies with her husband, like a friend
