Thus it is said: Like Nanda, Angulimala, Drstasatya, and Sukha-krta. It is said, if someone was previously oppressed by afflictions, or influenced by bad friends, occasionally committing unwholesome deeds, and has become unrestrained. Later, meeting with a virtuous spiritual friend, carefully taking and abandoning, diligently practicing, and thus becoming endowed with mindfulness, that is also like the moon that has emerged from the cloud cover, extremely beautiful. Have you seen such beings? Yes, I have. For example, the one named Nanda, the younger brother of the Bhagavan, a young Shakya man full of desire. He could not bear to be separated from his wife even for a moment. Later, the Tathagata ordained him. Even then, he thought of his wife day and night, not delighting in virtue. The Bhagavan directly showed the terror of hell, causing him to be afraid, and made him practice the path, thereby attaining Arhatship, and he was prophesied to be the foremost of those who have tamed their senses among the Shravakas. Angulimala was the son of a Brahmin. Because he was foolish, he was deceived by his Khenpo, who told him that if he killed a thousand people and made a garland of fingers, it would become Dharma. Deceived by this non-Dharma teaching, he killed almost a thousand people. Later, the Tathagata ordained him, and he attained Arhatship. Drstasatya was Ajatashatru. He also, because of associating with the evil friend Devadatta, killed his father, who possessed Dharma, and committed many sins. Later, he gained faith in the Teacher, and was liberated from the result of his sins. The Bhagavan prophesied him to be the foremost of faithful lay followers. Sukha-krta is the one who went to commit adultery with another's wife, and was stopped by his mother, and therefore killed his mother. After ordaining, it was known that he had committed an irreversible crime, and the Sangha expelled him. He went to the borderlands, built a monastery, and resided there. Relying on him, many naturally abiding monks gathered. He became the abbot of the Sangha, and protected the Sangha according to the Dharma. After his life ended, due to the ripening of the irreversible crime, he only experienced suffering in hell like a blind man bumping into a wall. Then, dying from hell, he was reborn as a god, and in the presence of the Bhagavan, he attained the fruit of stream-entry.
