If one clings to existence and non-existence, one will be destroyed by wrong views, as mentioned earlier, destroying those clinging with little wisdom. If something beneficial is grasped in another way, it will not be beneficial. How could it then cause harm? This is illustrated by an example: Just as wrongly grasping a snake, and wrongly practicing a mantra. If one grasps a snake with the power of snake medicine and mantra, according to the correct instructions, it will bestow a wealth of treasures. If one abandons the correct instructions and grasps it haphazardly, the wrong grasp will destroy the one who grasps it. Similarly, if one practices a mantra according to the correct instructions, it will benefit the practitioner. If the instructions are flawed and the mantra is practiced incorrectly, it will destroy the practitioner. Likewise, if one grasps emptiness as indicated by the correct instructions of the two truths, it will unite the one who grasps it with the supreme bliss of nirvana. If one abandons the correct instructions and grasps it, it will destroy the one who grasps it in the manner described earlier. The fifth point is: Therefore, the Buddha, knowing that it is difficult for the weak to realize the depth of this Dharma, the Buddha's mind turned away from teaching the Dharma. Because wrong clinging to emptiness destroys the one who clings to it, and those of weak intelligence cannot correctly cling to emptiness, therefore, after attaining unsurpassed, perfect, complete enlightenment, the Buddha, seeing the faculties of sentient beings and the Dharma as extremely profound, knowing that it is difficult for those of weak intelligence to realize the depth of this Dharma, the mind of the Buddha, the Bhagavan, turned away from teaching the Dharma. As it is said in the Sutra: Then, not long after the Bhagavan attained perfect, complete enlightenment, he thought to himself: I should not examine this profound Dharma, which appears profound, which is not the domain of speculation, whose subtleties are to be understood by the wise and intelligent. If I were to teach it to others, others would not understand it. That would harm me, discourage me, and make me unhappy. It is best that I alone enjoy the bliss of the Dharma in a solitary forest.

It is like the scriptures say extensively that one should abide in stillness by obtaining a place to abide in stillness. Second, refuting common arguments. This has two parts: showing that arguments do not apply to Madhyamikas; showing that arguments apply to realists. The first also has two parts: actually showing that arguments do not apply; showing that all establishments are reasonable. First, the extreme of becoming a fault is: Because emptiness is not reasonable, you are a rejector of emptiness, that is not reasonable to me. Because you say to us: If all these are empty, there will be no arising and no destruction. Stating such a great fault is because you do not understand the establishment of the two truths, and you do not comprehend emptiness, the meaning of emptiness, and the necessity of emptiness as they are. Therefore, that fault is not reasonable for us who speak of emptiness. Because it is not reasonable, you hold on to some meaning and say that emptiness has the extreme of fault, and the meaning of emptiness that you refute is not the meaning of emptiness to me. Like this, if you impose the meaning of non-existence as the meaning of emptiness and then state the extreme, then we do not explain non-existence itself as the meaning of emptiness, but we explain dependent arising itself as the meaning of emptiness. Therefore, it is not appropriate to refute those who speak of emptiness. Second, not only does our side not fall into the fault as stated, but the establishments such as the truth are also very reasonable. Like this: For whom emptiness is possible, for him everything is possible. For whom emptiness is not possible, for him everything is not possible. For whom emptiness is possible, for him all the establishments that are said, such as the truth, are possible. How is it possible? We say that dependent arising itself is emptiness. Therefore, for whom emptiness is possible, for him dependent arising is possible. For whom dependent arising is possible, for him the four noble truths are reasonable. Like this, whatever is dependently arising is suffering, and what is not dependently arising is not suffering. If there is suffering, then there is the origin of suffering.
