Commentary on Chapter Twenty-Four Commentary on Chapter Twenty-Four Third, in order to refute the arguments against the unborn, refute the argument that the four truths are not valid as an objective, and the argument that obtaining nirvana is not valid, divided into two parts. The first part includes raising the argument and refuting it. The first part is further divided into the unreasonableness of transcendental terminology and the unreasonableness of worldly terminology. The first part is further divided into a summary and a detailed explanation. The first part is: If all these are empty, there will be no arising and no ceasing. Then, the four noble truths of the noble ones will become non-existent. If you establish that all internal and external phenomena are emptiness because they are unreasonable by reason, then you will have faults, and great faults. How so? If all these are empty, then emptiness is non-existent. Therefore, like the son of a barren woman, there is no birth and no cessation, so nothing arises and nothing ceases. In that case, the four noble truths of the noble ones will become non-existent. For example, these five aggregates of appropriation are produced by previous causes and are interdependent. Because they are incompatible with the nature of the suffering of the three sufferings and have the nature of harm, they are called suffering. Only the noble ones know that this is suffering, but ordinary people do not, so it is called the noble truth of suffering. As it is said in the sutra: There is a single hair in the palm of the hand, which people do not notice, but when it enters the eye, it causes discomfort and harm. Ordinary people are like the palm of the hand, unable to perceive the hair of the suffering of formation. The noble ones are like the eye, and they can clearly feel it. Just like that. If suffering is formation, arising, and ceasing, that would be reasonable. But when everything is empty and there is no arising and ceasing at all, how can there be suffering? If there is no suffering, there is no origin either. For example, from what cause does suffering arise, and the cause that has the nature of karma and afflictions is called origin. When there is no result, that is, suffering,

Since a cause without a result is unreasonable, there is also no origin. If cessation is said to be the absence of suffering and non-arising, then when suffering does not exist, what ceases to become cessation? Therefore, cessation also does not exist. If there is no cessation, how can the Noble Eightfold Path that leads to the cessation of suffering exist? Therefore, the path also does not exist. In this way, for you who assert that all things are empty, it necessarily follows that you do not have the four noble truths. The second part has three aspects. First, the Sangha Jewel is unreasonable, which also has three aspects. The unreasonableness lies in the inability to know the four truths. If the four truths do not exist, what fault will there be? Because there are no four noble truths, complete knowledge, abandonment, cultivation, and realization are not possible. If these four noble truths do not exist, then completely knowing suffering in terms of impermanence, abandoning the origin of suffering, cultivating the path that leads to the cessation of suffering, and realizing the cessation of suffering are not possible. Second, the unreasonableness lies in the absence of the fruit of realization. If completely knowing suffering and so on does not exist, what fault will there be? Because these do not exist, the four fruits also do not exist. When completely knowing the four truths such as suffering does not exist, the four fruits, namely the Stream-enterer, Once-returner, Non-returner, and Arhat fruits, also cannot exist. Among them, the name of the fruit is obtained by summarizing the abandonment of afflictions. For example, the abandonment of the three bonds, namely the view of self, which is the main obstacle to liberation, the adherence to pure morality and asceticism, and doubt, is called the Stream-enterer fruit at the moment of the sixteen instants of realizing the truth. On top of that, the abandonment that exists on the path of liberation, having abandoned the small part of the middle grade to be abandoned in the desire realm, is called the Once-returner fruit. On top of that, the abandonment that exists on the path of liberation, having abandoned the small part of the small grade to be abandoned in the desire realm, is called the Non-returner fruit. On top of that
