If one gradually becomes a Buddha by accumulating merit through generosity and so forth, then at what time, in the manner described above, when there is no Dharma and Sangha, how can a Buddha arising from the two accumulations exist? Therefore, if one speaks of emptiness in this way, it harms the Three Jewels. Because speaking of the meaning of emptiness in this way is difficult to find, occurs only sometimes, those with little merit do not encounter it, and because it is of great value, similar to a precious jewel, it harms the Three Jewels, namely the Buddha, Dharma, and Sangha. Secondly, worldly conventions are unreasonable: having results, as well as non-virtue and the nature of virtue, worldly speech causes harm to all. If all of this is empty and non-existent, then non-virtues such as killing, which are included in everything, and the nature of virtue such as abstaining from killing, and their desirable and undesirable results, do not exist. Worldly speech, do, act, make, sit, go, and so forth, are all included in everything, and because everything is empty, it is unreasonable and causes harm. Therefore, saying that everything is empty is not good. Secondly, refuting it, divided into briefly indicating and explaining in detail, the first part is: Explaining this, you, because you have not understood the necessity of emptiness, emptiness itself, and the meaning of emptiness, therefore you cause harm in that way. Answering the one who argues in this way: You who speak of inherent existence, because you have not understood the necessity of emptiness, for what purpose emptiness is taught, and the definition of emptiness, and the meaning of emptiness to which the word emptiness refers, therefore you, with your own conceptualization, cling to non-existence itself as the meaning of emptiness, and then say: If all of these are empty, there will be no arising and no destruction. And so on, uttering accusations and being very dissatisfied with us, in this way, it is harm to yourself. Whatever you completely grasp

This idea is not spoken of as the meaning of emptiness in our treatise. Because you do not understand the meaning of emptiness, you do not understand emptiness, nor do you understand the necessity of emptiness. So, what is the necessity of emptiness here? It says here: Liberation comes from the exhaustion of karma and afflictions. Karma and afflictions come from conceptual thought. Those elaborations that arise from elaboration are prevented by emptiness. As mentioned before. Therefore, emptiness is taught in order to pacify all elaborations. But you think that emptiness has no meaning and only spread the net of elaboration, so you have not realized the necessity of emptiness. What is emptiness? That is also: not known from others, peaceful, not elaborated by elaborations, without conceptualization, without different meanings, that is the nature of Suchness. As mentioned before. Therefore, emptiness is the nature of eliminating all elaborations, how can it be non-existent? Therefore, you do not understand emptiness. What meaning is taken to establish the name of emptiness? It is: whatever is dependent arising is said to be emptiness, that is established dependently, that is the Middle Way. It will be explained in this way. The meaning of the name of dependent arising is the meaning of the name of emptiness, but the meaning of the non-existence of things is not the meaning of the name of emptiness. Therefore, you also do not understand the meaning of the name of emptiness. Seeking faults without understanding only harms yourself. Second, the extensive explanation, in which, incidentally, the establishment of the two truths, directly refuting faults, and showing that seeing dependent arising leads to the realization of the truth, there are three points. The first point is: Who is seeking the faults of the Madhyamikas as spoken of? It is those who do not understand the meaning of the scriptures, do not understand the difference between the two truths, and are only keen on reciting the scriptures, those who in their own school speak of inherent existence. Therefore, in order to dispel others' misunderstanding of the meaning of the scriptures, the teacher must first establish without inversion the two truths taught by the Blessed One in the scriptures. The Buddhas teach the Dharma, all based on the two truths.
