There is no self, impurity, impermanence, and suffering. If there is no self, purity, permanence, and happiness, which are contrary to perversion, then the four, such as selflessness, also cannot exist in a perverse way, because if there is no object to be negated, there is no negation. If selflessness and so on do not exist, then how can they not be perverted like self and so on? Therefore, those who desire liberation should abandon all eight of these perversions. Fourth, as mentioned before, the analysis of perversion is the cause of abandoning ignorance and so on, so it is very meaningful. It is like this: When perversion ceases, ignorance will also cease. When ignorance ceases, actions and so on will also cease. When a yogi, through the reasoning mentioned before, no longer clings to perversion, then when perversion ceases, its cause, ignorance, will also cease. When ignorance ceases, the cause of ignorance, actions and so on, up to the phenomena of aging and death, will also cease, because ignorance is the root of all afflictions and sufferings such as birth. For example, the root of the body, all tangible senses, when the senses of the body cease, they will also cease. Second, refuting the abandonment of afflictions with antidotes: Here it is said, if ignorance ceases when perversion ceases, it is reasonable, because one seeks the means to cease it. Therefore, its cause, afflictions and the continuation of existence, also exist. If there is a way to abandon afflictions such as ignorance, then one should seek the way to abandon them, but there is no abandonment of them. If one is to abandon them, then is one abandoning something that exists or something that does not exist? The first case is unreasonable, like this: If the afflictions of some people, which exist by their own nature, then how can they be abandoned? Who would abandon something that exists? If the afflictions such as ignorance of some people exist by their own nature, then how can they be abandoned by antidotes? They cannot be abandoned. Why is that? Who would abandon something that exists?

Because it can be abandoned, because its nature cannot be prevented, just as the unobstruction of the sky cannot be prevented. If it is thought that it is empty by nature, that is also unreasonable. If the afflictions of some people, which are empty by nature, then how can they be abandoned? Who abandons what does not exist? If the afflictions such as ignorance of some people are empty by nature, then how can they be abandoned? Just as no one strives to prevent the coldness of fire, if these afflictions do not exist, who will abandon them? No one will abandon them. Therefore, there is no abandonment of afflictions, and because there is no abandonment, there is no search for a method to abandon afflictions. Therefore, it is said in the sutra: With wisdom, know the emptiness of the aggregates, and after knowing, do not associate with afflictions, but speak only through the door of speech, and contemplate this world like nirvana. This is the commentary on the chapter on examining perversions in the Root Wisdom of the Middle Way, that is, the twenty-third chapter. // Explanation of Chapter Twenty-Four Third, refuting the argument against the unborn, there are two types: refuting the argument that the four noble truths are unreasonable as the object, and refuting the argument that nirvana to be attained is unreasonable. The first is divided into raising the argument and refuting it. The first is divided into the unreasonableness of transcendental conventions and the unreasonableness of worldly conventions. The first is divided into a summary and a detailed explanation. The first is: If all these are empty, then there is no arising and no ceasing. Then, the four noble truths of the noble ones will become a fault of non-existence for you. If you establish that all internal and external phenomena are empty because they are unreasonable, then you will have many great faults. How so? If all these are empty, then emptiness is non-existent. Therefore, like the child of a barren woman, there is no birth and no death, and nothing arises or ceases. In this way, the four noble truths of the noble ones will become a fault of non-existence. For example, this is the five aggregates of clinging,
