It is not so. Just as ordinary cowherds and others can see non-existent cities of gandharvas, illusions, dreams, mirages, etc., as well as hairworms, mosquitoes, and long-beaked mosquitoes, similarly, arising and ceasing do not actually exist, but are seen by those whose eyes of wisdom are blinded by the haze of ignorance. However, those noble ones who have removed the cataract of ignorance with the eye medicine of emptiness, even in the subsequent attainment, comprehend that all phenomena are like illusions, and thus see that arising and ceasing are empty of inherent existence. The second point is: How can it be certain that arising and ceasing do not exist but are seen only because of ignorance? This is certain through reasoning. Like this, if there is some object that has the characteristic of arising, then it arises either from an object or from a non-object. Similarly, if there is some non-object that has the characteristic of ceasing, then it arises either from an object or from a non-object. Neither of these two is reasonable. An object does not arise from an object, nor does an object arise from a non-object, nor does a non-object arise from a non-object, nor does a non-object arise from an object. An object with the characteristic of arising does not arise from an object, because that would imply that cause and effect are simultaneous, and also because it is meaningless for something that has already arisen to arise again. An object also does not arise from a non-object, because a non-object is cessation, and that is contradictory to an object. A non-object does not arise from a non-object, for if a non-object were to arise from a non-object, then a son should also be born from the daughter of a widow, but that is not the case, because a non-object is the nature of the opposite of an object, and therefore has no ability to produce a result. If it did, then nirvana should also be able to produce a result. A non-object also does not arise from an object, because a non-object is contradictory to an object, so how can it arise from an object? If it could, then darkness should also arise from a lamp. Therefore, if analyzed in this way, arising and ceasing

Therefore, it should be known that because there is no ignorance, it is seen by delusion. Second, refuting the specific arising, divided into three parts: the refutation itself, the fault of the existence of things, and the refutation of that fault. The first part is: If there are some things, then they must have birth and death, so they will experience arising and ceasing, but in reality, there are no things, just like a rabbit's horn, which is not born by nature. Like this: Things do not arise from themselves, nor do they arise from others, nor do they arise from both self and others, if they do not exist, how can they arise? Things do not arise from themselves, because it is meaningless and will lead to the fault of endlessness. Nor does it arise from others, because this will lead to arising from all causes and non-causes. Nor does it arise from both self and others, because this will lead to both faults. If there is no arising in the manner described above, then how will it arise? It will not arise at all, it should be understood in this way. The second part is: If one admits that things exist, then one will fall into the view of permanence or annihilation, because that thing must be either permanent or impermanent. If someone transcends the above classification of things and admits that things are self-existent, then this will be seriously contrary to the scriptures and will fall into the view of permanence or annihilation, because if one examines that thing, it must be either permanent or impermanent. If it is permanent, then one will fall into the statement of permanence, if it is impermanent, then one will fall into the statement of annihilation. The third part is divided into the refutation of the fault itself and the refutation of the refutation. The first aspect is: Even if one admits that things exist, one will not fall into annihilationism or eternalism, because the arising and ceasing of cause and effect make the continuum exist. Even if one admits that things are self-existent, we will not fall into annihilationism and eternalism, because if the cause ceases and the effect produced by that cause does not arise, then at that time one will fall into annihilationism, if the cause does not cease and exists in its own nature, then one will fall into eternalism, but this is not the case, but the continuum of the arising and ceasing of the effects and causes of the aggregates in order, without interruption, is what exists.
