If it becomes dual, that is also unreasonable. Because half is permanent, and half is impermanent. Permanence and impermanence contradict each other and cannot exist in one entity. If the cause disappears without giving any effect to the result, then the result born after the cause ceases becomes causeless. If one wants to avoid the fault of the cause's nature becoming dual and thinks that the cause disappears completely without giving any effect to the result, then the result produced after the cause ceases becomes causeless. Since causelessness is non-existent, this idea is also unreasonable. The third view is: If someone thinks that the fault mentioned here is not that the result is produced after the cause ceases, but that the cause only produces the result that arises simultaneously with the aggregation, then, if the result arises simultaneously with the aggregation, the producer and the produced will become simultaneous. If the result arises simultaneously with the aggregation of causes and conditions, then the producer and the produced will become simultaneous, which is also unreasonable. Just like the left and right horns of a cow, we have not seen the producer and the produced among things that exist simultaneously. Here, the Vaibhashikas say that things do not arise from non-existence, because that would become sudden arising. However, the result exists in the future state before the aggregation of causes and conditions, and the aggregation of causes and conditions brings it into the present state, but the nature of the substance exists. If the result has already arisen before the aggregation, then it does not need causes and conditions, and the result will arise without a cause. This is also unreasonable, because then rabbit horns, etc., would also become existent. For things that already exist, there is no need to rely on causes and conditions, so this is also unreasonable. The fourth view is that the Samkhyas say that the cause

Therefore, if one distinguishes whether it ceases after giving or ceases without giving, then cause and effect are not other entities, but it is said that the cause itself ceases and abides in the nature of the effect. If that is the case, if the cause ceases and becomes the effect, then the cause will always be changing. The cause that arose earlier will also arise again, which is unreasonable. If the cause ceases and then the effect arises, and that effect is also the nature of the cause, then just as an actor puts down other props and picks up other props, the cause merely completely changes into the state of the effect, and it is not the arising of an effect that did not exist before. Therefore, if the cause is permanent, that is also unreasonable. As it is said in the *Śataśāstra*: Whatever thing, wherever, whenever, it is impossible to exist without dependence. Therefore, at no time, in no place, does any permanent thing exist. So it is said. Furthermore, from this perspective, the cause that arose earlier will also arise again. What has already arisen will not arise again, because there is no need, and it would lead to endlessness. Fifth, if the cause produces the effect, does it produce something that has ceased or something that has not ceased? And does the effect produce something that has already arisen or something that has not arisen? If it is said that the cause ceases and then produces the effect that has already arisen, then, ceasing becomes disappearing, how does it produce the effect that has already arisen? How does the cause, having ceased and disappeared, produce the effect that has already arisen and exists? If the cause ceases and then produces the effect, then a widow should also be able to give birth to a child, and once the effect has arisen, it does not need to rely on the cause. If it is thought that it is powerless, that the cause ceases and does not produce the effect, but only the existing cause can produce the effect, then, how does the cause that is related to the effect, existing, produce the effect? How does the cause that is related to the existing effect, existing without changing its own nature, produce the effect? Because "when the cause is transformed, it becomes another cause," after the effect has arisen, the cause must necessarily transform into another form. If even the existing effect cannot be produced, and only the cause that is unrelated to the effect can produce the effect, then, if the cause and effect are unrelated, what kind of effect will it produce?
