Then, is it the nature of the aggregates or something different from the aggregates? If the aggregates are the self, then there will be birth and death. If one thinks that the aggregates are the nature of the self, then that self will be subject to birth and death, because the aggregates depend on birth and death. I do not think so either, because many faults would follow. For example: it is not produced from not being produced, this would become a fault. I would become created, and production would also become causeless. Similarly, grasping itself is not the self, it is arising and ceasing. How can grasping be the grasper? As it is said. Therefore, the aggregates are not the self. It is also not permissible to be different from the aggregates, if it is different from the aggregates, it will not have the characteristics of the aggregates. If the self is a different thing from the aggregates, just as a horse other than a cow does not have the characteristics of a cow, so too the self will not have the general characteristics of the aggregates, that is, the characteristics of birth, death, and abiding. If it is like that, because it is non-existent or unconditioned, like a flower in the sky, it will not be found to be called the self, and it will not be suitable as an object of self-grasping. Or, this has another meaning, if the self is different from the aggregates, the five aggregates are the nature of being form, being experienced, being identified, being formed, and being individually conscious of objects, then I will not have the nature of the aggregates as mentioned above, and it will be established as having different natures, and having different natures will be able to be grasped like mind from form, if it can be grasped then it is not the grasper. Therefore, being different from the aggregates also does not exist. Thus, those who desire liberation, when they discriminate about the self imputed in dependence on the aggregates, whether it has the nature of the aggregates or is something different from the aggregates, because it cannot be determined in any way, therefore for them, if the self does not exist, how can there be my existence? If the aggregates do not have the nature of one and different, then the object of the five aggregates, which is the cause of imputing the self, my...

How could it be? For example, if a chariot is burned, its parts will also be burned and unrecognizable. Similarly, when one realizes the selflessness of the self, one will also definitely realize that the nature of the five aggregates is also selfless. As it is said in the Ratnavali: 'The aggregates arise from the clinging to self, and that clinging to self is actually false. If the seed is false, how can its fruit be true?' Having seen that the aggregates are not true in this way, one will abandon clinging to self. Those who have abandoned clinging to self will not produce aggregates in the future.' Thus it is said. Because the self and what belongs to the self are unrecognizable, one sees the ultimate truth. The yogi who is close to it will certainly be without clinging to self and clinging to what belongs to self because of the quiescence of the self and what belongs to the self. The object of clinging to self—the self, and the object of clinging to what belongs to the self—the aggregates, etc., are quiescent, that is, unborn and unrecognizable, so the yogi will not have clinging to self and clinging to what belongs to self. If, for a yogi who has no clinging to self and no clinging to what belongs to self, existence is not like this? If it exists, then are the self and the aggregates also established? The answer is: 'He who has no clinging to self and no clinging to what belongs to self does not exist either, because whoever sees it without clinging to self and without clinging to what belongs to self cannot see it.' As said before, since the self and the aggregates are unrecognizable in any case, therefore, for those who have no clinging to self and no clinging to what belongs to self, that (essence) which is separate from the self and the aggregates also does not exist. Therefore, know that with this non-existent nature, whoever sees it without clinging to self and without clinging to what belongs to self will not see the suchness that is free from all elaborations. As the Blessed One said: 'Look at the inner self as empty, look at the outer as empty, whoever meditates on emptiness, that also does not exist.' Thus it is said. Secondly, therefore, when the thoughts of self and what belongs to the self disappear in the inner and outer, grasping will cease, and when grasping ceases, birth ceases. All afflictions have the view of the perishable aggregate as their root, the view of the perishable aggregate as their source, and the view of the perishable aggregate as their cause. Thus it is said in the sutras. And the view of the perishable aggregate is also the aggregates of inner and outer things
