Now, likewise, there will be arising of the unborn. Secondly, connecting what has been said with memory: Furthermore, regarding this view that 'arising produces self and other,' we do not need to state refutations now. However, refuting this view, let us consider for a moment whether it exists or not. Arising is not logical, and neither is existence or non-existence. This has already been shown above. How so? For the meaning of existence or non-existence, conditions are not permissible. As it says, 'When a dharma exists, non-existence, existence, and both cannot be established.' And so on, when arising is prevented, the conceptualization that arising produces what is arising, and that it produces the essence of self and other, will not occur. Furthermore, when this arising is examined, one will think of things as either being destroyed or not being destroyed. Neither is reasonable. For things that are being destroyed, arising is not reasonable. For something that is not being destroyed, that is not a reasonable thing. For present things that are impermanent and related to destruction, arising is not reasonable, because it exists. Past and future things that are separated from destruction and not being destroyed are not reasonable things because they do not possess the characteristics of things; therefore, arising is not reasonable. Secondly, refuting abiding: Here it is said that the arising of things exists because if it exists, then the existing dharma also exists. For something without arising, there is no abiding; therefore, because there is arising, there is abiding. In response, abiding is also nominally established, but not truly. A thing that abides does not abide; a thing that does not abide is not abiding. What is in the process of abiding also does not abide; how can something unborn abide? A thing that abides does not abide because the activity of abiding has ceased for it. A thing that does not abide is not abiding because it is separated from the activity of abiding. What is in the process of abiding also does not abide because it would entail two abidings, and there is no process of abiding that is different from abiding and not abiding. Furthermore, since arising has already been prevented, how can an unborn thing abide? Like a rabbit's horn. Furthermore, is this abiding being destroyed or not being destroyed?

Therefore, this is also unreasonable. For things that are in the process of decay, it is unreasonable to abide. If something is not in the process of decay, then it is not a thing. If a thing that is in the process of decay is clearly moving towards decay, then it is unreasonable for there to be abiding, which is contrary to this. If something is not in the process of decay, separate from decay, then it is unreasonable for it to be a thing, so how could there be abiding? Furthermore, all things at all times are subject to the law of aging and death. What are the abiding things that are without aging and death? All things at all times are contrary to abiding, having the nature of aging and death. What are the abiding things that are without aging and death? Therefore, there is no abiding. Furthermore, does this abiding conceive of another abiding for the sake of abiding, or does it abide by itself? Neither is reasonable. Abiding with other abiding, and with itself, cannot abide. Just as birth is not born of itself and others. Abiding with other abiding and abiding itself cannot abide, it should be understood as birth is not born of itself and others. Just like this: This birth, since it is unborn, how can it give rise to its own nature? And so on. Just like this: This abiding, since it does not abide, how can it abide its own nature? If abiding causes abiding, then what abides in abiding? Combine it like this. Also, if another birth causes it to be born, there will be no end. Just as it is said, if another abiding causes it to abide, there will be no end. Third, refuting destruction. Here it is said that birth and abiding exist, and if they exist, then as a law of existence, destruction exists, is that so? Impermanence is also only nominal, not real. Just like this: What has already decayed will not decay, what has not decayed will not decay, and what is decaying is not like that either. What has not been born, how can it decay? If this impermanence exists, things will become decayed, not decayed, or decaying. What has already decayed will not decay, because the past and the present are contradictory. What has not decayed will not decay, because it is separate from decay. Decay
