Even a flower in the sky would generate its own nature. If what is born generates its own nature, then what is already born, what is there to generate? Because what is already born should not be born again. The second is: what is born, unborn, and being born, in no way generates. This is explained by what is gone, not gone, and walking. The fruit that is born, unborn, and being born, in no way is generated by birth, this is explained by showing that there is no going on the path of gone, not gone, and walking. Thus, what is born does not arise, because what is born is the cessation of the act of birth. And the word "birth" means that the act is now completed. If it is said that what is born will be born, then the past and present contradict each other. What is unborn also does not arise, because the future and present contradict each other. What is being born also does not arise, because there is no other being born other than what is born and unborn. The third is: what is born and unborn does not arise, but only what is being born arises. Thus, what possesses the act of birth is called being born, and if it is said that what is being born is also generated by birth, then, when birth exists, if what is being born does not arise, how can it be said to rely on birth and be called being born? If, when birth exists, it can be determined that what is being born arises relying on this birth, but, according to the reason just stated, when there is no birth, how can it be said that what is being born arises relying on birth? Therefore, it is unreasonable to say that what is being born is born from birth, and that it is also generated by birth. Here it is said that the Blessed One, by "This being, that arises; this arising, that arises," etc., shows dependent origination, in order to eliminate the theory of no cause and the view that asserts incompatible things as causes, thereby showing the true nature of all phenomena. And you, by "What is born, unborn, and being born, in no way arises," deny birth, then you deny dependent origination. Therefore, it is enough to argue with you who assert that everything is empty, if you say so.

I am not refuting dependent arising, but you are refuting dependent arising. The Blessed One said, "When this exists, that arises," which clearly shows that things have no inherent nature. Whatever is dependently arisen, its nature is peace. Whatever arises depending on the causes and conditions of these mere factors is, like illusions, of the nature of the cessation of elaboration. We say that from the cause called seed arises the fruit called sprout, and both of these also show that dependent arising is the cessation of elaboration, thus clarifying dependent arising. You, who claim that things have inherent nature, are harming dependent arising, because inherent nature does not depend on others, so it cannot be dependent arising. Therefore, arising and birth are also peace. Because dependent arising is the cessation of elaboration, arising and birth are also the cessation of elaboration. If it is said that depending on the birth of a pot, the arising of a pot occurs, and that arising is also produced by birth, that is also unreasonable. If an unarisen thing exists somewhere, then what will arise depending on the act of birth, if that future thing of the pot does not exist at all, what will arise depending on the act of birth? Third, showing another way of refutation: If birth causes arising, then what causes that birth, like birth? If birth does not produce arising, then what other birth should be said to produce that birth? If by another birth, then it will be endless. This meaning has already been said. If birth occurs without birth, then everything will arise in that way. If birth arises without another birth, then everything that should be produced by birth
