If the object to be defined is not established, then the definition is also not established, because there is no basis. Third, summarizing the main points: Therefore, the object to be defined does not exist, and the definition itself does not exist. Second, refuting existence and non-existence: If it is said that even if the object to be defined and the definition do not exist, the sky exists as a real entity, then, apart from the object to be defined and the definition, things also do not exist. Why? Because it is separated from the object to be defined and the definition, like a flower in the sky. If the sky is not real, then does non-reality exist? If reality does not exist, then to what does non-reality belong? When the sky is not real, then to what does non-reality belong? Because in the world, the change of the state of reality is called non-reality. Therefore, the sky is only nominally established as formless. According to the reason stated above, if it is formless, then how can the sky that negates it exist? If you say that because you exist who distinguish between existence and non-existence, they also exist, this is also unreasonable. Existence and non-existence are incompatible dharmas, who can know existence and non-existence? Is the one who distinguishes real, or non-real? Or, use the third dharma that is incompatible with these two to understand existence and non-existence? First of all, it is not real, because it has been refuted that "apart from the object to be defined and the definition, things also do not exist." It is also not non-real, because it has been said that "if reality does not exist, then to what does non-reality belong?" It is also not an incompatible dharma other than these two. Therefore, there is no one who distinguishes between existence and non-existence. Second, the conclusion of negation is: Therefore, the sky is not real, not non-real, not the object to be defined, not the definition, as it is said. Second, extending this principle to other things: The five elements, anything else is also the same as the sky. The five elements of earth, water, fire, wind, and consciousness, anything else should also be known to be the same as the way the sky is analyzed. For example, before the definition of earth, there is not the slightest earth. And so on, therefore, earth is not real.

Thus it should be declared. Second, showing that clinging to extremes does not lead to liberation: Whatever small minds, In things, existence and non-existence, That view, the object to be viewed, Peaceful nirvana is not seen. Because of their inherently small and inferior minds, clinging to the extremes of existence and non-existence, those groups of self and others who have lost sight of the path of liberation, the nature of emptiness, those who view external and internal things as existing or not existing, do not see nirvana, which is to be viewed, which is peaceful by being free from all concepts, and which is the nature of ultimate emptiness, peaceful by the cessation of knowable and knower. Thus, it is also said in the sutra: 'Existence and non-existence are both extremes. Purity and impurity are also extremes. Therefore, having completely abandoned both extremes, the wise do not even abide in the middle.' Thus it was said. From the Fundamental Wisdom of the Middle Way, the chapter called 'Examination of the Elements' is the commentary on the fifth chapter.

If so, for the arising of the second moment of wisdom that is established by it, there is temporarily no place to abide. Because the enjoyer after the first moment of mind is also not something that can be labeled, therefore, there is also no place there. Thus, because there is no attachment, all conceptualizations of desire are conventional truths. Because there is no desire that relies on attachment. Therefore, if the object of attachment exists, it is reasonable for desire to exist, but it is not reasonable for attachment without desire to exist, because it would lead to the fault that even Arhats have desire. If it is thought that there is desire without attachment, even if there is no attachment, how can there be desire? Even if the object of attachment does not exist, how can the desire that relies on it exist? Just as without fruit, there is no ripening that relies on it. If it is said that there is desire, because there is attachment. If attachment exists, then one should consider whether desire exists or does not exist? For attachment, desire is, whether it exists or does not exist, the order is the same. For attachment, it can also be thought that before it, whether desire without attachment exists or does not exist, if before attachment, desire without attachment exists, relying on it there is attachment, if there is desire then there is attachment. And, even if there is no desire, how can there be attachment? Combine these refutations in the same order. Second, from where does this fault arise? Desire and attachment do not arise sequentially, but rather the two arise simultaneously, because the desire that arises simultaneously with the mind causes the mind to be attached. Desire and attachment cannot arise simultaneously. Why? In this way, desire and attachment will become mutually independent. If they arise simultaneously, like the left and right horns, desire and attachment will become mutually independent. Furthermore, if desire and attachment are simultaneous, then one should consider whether the two are one or different? One cannot be simultaneous, because that and that cannot be simultaneous. If desire and attachment are one, then it is impossible to be simultaneous, because here attachment itself cannot be simultaneous with it.
