It cannot accomplish the meaning. Why? By refuting gone, not gone, and going, that is answered by observation. The example of fire, together with the observation of the real meaning, is answered together, that is, refuted. By what is it refuted? By the reasoning that it is impossible to go on the path of gone, not gone, and going, as previously shown. Thus, slightly gone does not go, as it is said, slightly burned does not burn, and not burned also does not burn. Apart from burned and not burned, one cannot know the burning. Thus it is said. Also, slightly seen does not see, and not seen also does not see. Apart from seen and not seen, one cannot know the seeing. Thus it should be said. And how? Slightly the goer does not go, as it is said, slightly the burner does not burn, the burner who is not the burner does not burn. Apart from the burner and the non-burner, who is the third that will burn? Thus it is said. Slightly the seer does not see, the seer who is not the seer does not see. Apart from the seer and the non-seer, who is the third that will see? Thus reciting, transforming, and refuting should be spoken. The third is the summary of the meaning: When one does not see even slightly, one is not seeing. To say that one sees because one has seen, how is that reasonable? At the time when the eye, in the manner described above, does not see even slightly any nature, at that time it is not truly seeing. Therefore, to say that one is a seer because of seeing, how is that eye reasonable? It is like a pillar and so on. The fourth is to show another way of refutation: Furthermore, if it is said that one is a seer because of seeing, then, is it conceived that the act of seeing and the eye are connected with something that has the nature of seeing, or with something that does not have the nature of seeing? Neither is possible. Seeing is not seeing itself, and not seeing is not not seeing itself. Although something with the nature of seeing has the act of seeing, it is not separate from seeing itself, because seeing becomes two actions, and the agent also becomes two. Something without the nature of seeing is also not seeing itself, because it is separated from the act of seeing. Second, refuting the seer: There is seeing, because there is a seer.

Why is that? It should be understood that the view itself also refutes the viewer. Earlier it was said, "The self-nature of the view is not a view in itself." etc. It should be understood that by refuting the view itself, the viewer is also refuted. The viewer's own self-nature is not a view in itself. How can one who does not see himself see others? etc. should be said. If the viewer exists, it is because there is his action and agent, because there is something to be seen and a view. If this is said, the object of sight and the view are dependent on the viewer, but that is also not existent upon examination. The viewer who has not abandoned the view does not exist, even if the view is abandoned. If there is a viewer, will it be one who is dependent on the view or one who is not dependent? The viewer who has not abandoned the view, the viewer who is dependent on the view does not exist, because whether the viewer is established or not, it is not reasonable to depend on the view, because the established one does not need to depend, and the unestablished one, like the son of a barren woman, should not depend. The viewer who has abandoned the view also does not exist, because the agent depends on the action. Therefore, if there is no viewer, where are the objects of sight and the view? As has been said, if there is no viewer, then where are the objects of sight and the view that depend on it? Therefore, because they exist, it is not established that the viewer exists. Thirdly, refuting the result of the visible and the viewer. Just as from father and mother, it is said that a child is born in dependence. Similarly, from eye and form in dependence, it is said that consciousness arises. Just as a child is born in dependence on father and mother, so consciousness arises in dependence on the viewer's eye and the visible form, and the three together produce contact, from which feeling arises, and from which craving arises. In this way, the four limbs of existence have the cause of the visible and the view, so do the visible and the view exist? Because there is no visible and no view, the four, consciousness etc., do not exist. Thus, because there is no viewer, there is no visible and no view, as has been said before, therefore the four, consciousness etc., which have that as their cause, do not exist. Consciousness etc. exist, they
