Because there is no maker. If it is conceived that I am made, then samsara would have a beginning, and beings that never existed before would also arise. Furthermore, since there was no self before, and therefore no maker, the arising of the present self would become causeless. The sound 'om' is a conceptualization: Would I be made? Or did I not arise in the past? This is not accepted. Does arising become causeless? Or did it not arise in the past? This is not accepted. Third, refuting the three aspects of the aggregates: Thus, I have arisen, I have not arisen, both, neither. Whatever observation is directed towards the past, that is not reasonable. Thus, in the manner described, did I arise in the past? Or did I not arise in the past? Whatever observation is directed towards the past is not reasonable. Because those two do not exist, both are also unreasonable. If it is thought that the aggregation of those two is 'both,' since each one does not exist, those aggregations also do not exist. Because neither exists, it is also unreasonable to think that 'neither' exists by negating those. Therefore, it is not reasonable to say that it neither arises nor does not arise. Second, refuting the views that rely on the later extreme: In the future, he will arise, or he will not arise, it is said. Whatever views there are, are the same as the past. Will I become arising in the future? Will I not become arising? Will I arise and also not arise? Is it neither arising nor not arising? Whatever views there are towards the later extreme, it should be understood that those are the same in terms of what was said and refuted in relation to the four views on the past. Like this: 'In the future, he will arise,' saying that is unreasonable. Whatever arises in the future, that itself is not this. And so on. 'In the future, he will not arise,' saying that is also unreasonable. Whatever arises in the future, that is not different from this. And so on. Thus, I arise, I do not arise, both, neither. Whatever view there is towards the future, that is not reasonable.
