Even the tiniest thing will not be noticed. Because it is not noticed, one will not be confused about anything. Because one is not confused, one will not manifestly create actions. In this way, when ignorance ceases, how the aggregates cease, just like that, that and that cease, that and that will not appear. The sole heap of suffering, it will thus completely cease. Know that because of the cessation of the earlier limbs such as ignorance, the later limbs such as actions will not appear and will cease. Through this sequence, the yogi's heap of suffering, the sole heap of suffering that is separate from the collection of suffering, self, and what belongs to self, will completely cease because it no longer arises. As it is said, in the Sālu Green Tree Sutra: What is the internal dependent origination? It is this: conditioned by ignorance are the formations; conditioned by the formations is consciousness; conditioned by consciousness are name and form; conditioned by name and form are the six sense sources; conditioned by the six sense sources is contact; conditioned by contact is feeling; conditioned by feeling is craving; conditioned by craving is grasping; conditioned by grasping is existence; conditioned by existence is birth; conditioned by birth are aging and death, and sorrow, lamentation, pain, distress, and disturbance arise. Thus, a great heap of suffering will arise. As it is extensively taught. The explanation of the examination of the limb of existence from the Root Wisdom of the Middle Way, which is the twenty-sixth chapter, is completed. Explanation of the twenty-seventh chapter. Fifth, showing the benefits of understanding dependent origination, divided into two parts: brief explanation and extensive explanation. First, the brief explanation: Whoever truly sees such dependent origination, he does not rely on the prior extreme, nor does he rely on the posterior extreme, as quoted from the sutra. Then, what is the prior extreme? What is the posterior extreme? How does one not rely on them? In this regard, in relation to the present entity of self, the past bodies are called the prior extreme.

Therefore, not relying on it is because one sees the very nature of dependent arising as it is, so one does not cling to objects that exist in other ways with various views, thinking that they appear in other ways. There are eight views in this regard. Focusing on the past extreme and engaging in other ways, like this: 'The past time has arisen or not arisen,' and 'The world is permanent,' and so on. Whatever these views are, they rely on the past extreme. Did I arise in the past time? Or did I not arise? Or did I both arise and not arise? Or did I neither arise nor not arise? These four views rely on the past extreme. There are also four others, namely, 'The world is permanent,' and 'etc.' including 'impermanent,' 'both permanent and impermanent,' 'neither permanent nor impermanent.' Whatever these views are, they also rely on the past extreme. Among these, there is not much difference between the first set of four views and the second set of four views, but they are listed separately based on slight differences. For example, the difference between 'The world is permanent' and 'arisen in the past time' is that the former generally relies on the past extreme, while the latter clings to the past extreme of only oneself. Similarly, the differences should be explained for other views as well. What is relying on the future extreme? The body that will arise in the future in relation to the present self is called the future extreme. Not relying on it is because one sees the very nature of dependent arising as it is, so one does not cling to objects that exist in other ways with various views. There are eight views in this regard. Focusing on the future extreme and engaging in other ways, like this: 'The future time will arise,' and 'not arise, the end of the world,' and so on. Whatever these views are, they rely on the future extreme. Will I arise in the future time? Or will I not arise? Or will I both arise and not arise? Or will I neither arise nor not arise?
